Richmond College unveils a revised 1933 4 timetable to boost professor student interaction. Classes start 8 30 A M with 50 minute blocks and 10 minute room changes, extending the day to allow more interviews and discussions.
University Players postpone Meet the Prince until March 18 due to extensive renovations at the Biology Building now becoming a modernized theater. The revamped venue features a wider stage, new proscenium arch with English flair, enhanced lighting, dressing rooms, and a projection booth for possible films.
Westhampton College completed its six week election cycle naming next year’s officers. Senior Class chose Grace Rowland of Richmond as president, with Margaret Proctor also of Richmond as Representative to the Executive Council and Edith McDanel as Vice-President. Virginia Stiff of Harmony Village and Catherine Bell of Richmond were named Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Sophomores selected next year’s leadership including Caroline Shafer as president with Lalla Terrill of Orange as Executive Council Representative and Kathryn Conner of Richmond, Katharine Ellis of Richmond, and Betty Kelly of Mount Vernon as Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Freshman leadership will be headed by Lalla Terrill as Representative to the Executive Council, with Kathryn Conner and others filling secretary and treasurer roles.
Students wishing to take special exams on subjects conditioned last term must pay their fee at the treasurer's office and submit their names to the dean’s office before spring vacation. Quizzes are scheduled for Friday March 31 and Saturday April 1.
Richmond College timetable lists lunch from 1 30 to 2 00 and assembly from 10 30 to 1 20 with sessions on Monday Wednesday and Friday.
Omicron Delta Kappa and Pi Delta Epsilon will announce spring election results with a noon tap ceremony in Cannon Memorial Chapel next Wednesday. The two fraternities share a single speaker for both ceremonies and aim to give initiates more time to learn traditions. Named active members of the Richmond chapter include Edward L. Perlowski Ralph L Ferrell Jr Milton Hobson Edwin Cohen and others.
Professor William Loftin Prince of the University of Richmond was elected deputy of the Eastern Province of the O D K fraternity at the biennial convention held at Duke University. Edward L. Perlowski and Victor H. Chastain were official delegates from the local chapter. The convention created five provinces and highlighted Dr Shepherdson's praise of O D K as a leading honor society.
University of Richmond debaters Betts Cofer and Bolling H Ellis defeated Roanoke College pair W T Hayden and James E Palmer Jr in a morning debate here. The sides were decided by a coin toss before the discussion on canceling war debts.
Roger Grant wins the vice presidency as part of a landslide Student Government countdown at Richmond College. The campus election ends a tense race with 406 ballots cast and Grant among several senators and athletic officers vying for top posts.
A vesper program this Sunday March 12 features violin solos by Miss Winifred La Prade the Richmond violinist. She performs Mendelssohn Andante from E Minor Concerto Fibich Sou venir Poetique Kreisler Londonderry Air Midnight Bells and Raff Cavatina. A soprano solo by Miss Florence Lowe and University choir anthems complete the program including Mogart Glorious Is Thy Name Hopkins Lift Up Your Heads and Mendelssohn I Waited for the Lord.
The regular The Collegian edition for Friday will not appear. The next issue on March 17 will cover elections to Omicron Delta Kappa and Pi Delta Epsilon and other items of interest.
The Westhampton Messenger debuts with strong print and durable binding. Editors Louise Dinwiddie and associates Louise McLaughlin Louise Leatherland and Sue Cook McClure receive credit for careful organization. Critics note lack of romance or humor and deem some editorials overly moral, yet praise the modern style and the Modern Fable satire.
