Alumni Celebrate Support for Richmond College Campaign

Westhampton Ends Benevolence Drive

Westhampton College closes its January benevolence drive led by the local YWCA. A track poster shows class and faculty members in colored suits as donations progress toward a $1000 goal. The itemized budget lists funds for Student Friendship, Community Bond, Dooley Hospital, House of Happiness, Bryn Mawr Gift, Local Budget, and Matestivinthnsis subitems.

Dr. W. W. Landrum Dies At Richmond Pastor

The death of Dr. W. W. Landrum, father of Grace Landrum, occurred January 25. He served as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Richmond for years, and Miss Landrum departed for Russellville, Kentucky to attend the funeral.

Theta Chi Purchases Fraternity House Near Campus

Omicron Chapter Theta Chi announces purchase of a house on Rose Lawn Road formerly owned by Dr. Hopkins. It becomes the campus fourth fraternity with off campus quarters as universities plan more homes near College Row and future off campus expansion.

Glee Club Program Praised By Fans

Letters praising a radio program aired on WRVA by Westhampton College Glee Club and University of Richmond male quartet were sent to Rev Fr W Boatwright. Florence Booker and T Eugene West were singled out for praise by listeners, with alumni west of the region noted as receivers.

Ministers Banquet At William Byrd Hotel Tonight

Bentley Sings at College Chapel in Friday Program

William Bentley baritone soloist with Allene Booker on piano presented a varied chapel program on January 22. He performed Caro Mio Ben and Nina, Remember, Jerusalem, drawing strong attention from Richmond and Westhampton students and earning warm applause.

Dr. S C Mitchell told a Westhampton College Y W A audience that all ideals have roots in religion. He said ideals are often more true than facts and urged young women to form strong future ideals beyond technical college work.

Freshmen Glasses 10 Host Social At Westhampton Tonight

An introductory party to foster better acquaintance between Richmond University freshmen will be held in the drawing room at Westhampton College tonight. Men are urged to attend. women will serve as hostesses. A committee led by T A Savage is arranging the event. A banquet budget for February 12 at Hotel Richmond sets a three dollar and fifty cent fee per student to cover all costs.

Messenger French Translation Contest Extended to February 10

The Messenger announces the French translation contest extended to February 10. Editor L L Jones says the contest, started in December, translates a French short story and has drawn keen interest. The March issue will reveal the winner and a prize will be awarded at a later date and location.

Committee to interview president on Westhampton attendance

K C Walden president of Richmond College's Student Government Association leads a committee to seek Rev F W Boatwright's permission for Westhampton students to attend two basketball games against V P I and William and Mary with an escort. Spider Band Debuts On WRVA From Edgeworth Station

Spider Band presented its first radio program over WRVA with the University of Richmond Quartet and Spider Frolic Orchestra. The broadcast featured band and quartet numbers and an upcoming five minute talk by Dr. Boatwright, with a repeat performance planned in February during chapel period.

Women’s Auxiliary Meeting in Blue Room After Vesper

The Young Women’s Auxiliary met in the Blue Room after vesper services Sunday night. Eddie Sayers led the devotional, followed by a quartet. A short play titled Opening Paat House Beautiful was presented, authored by Glenna James who has two years at the Baptist Training School in Louisville.
