Westhampton College Dean Dean Keller proposes cutting Friday convocations by requiring women to attend only two per month. The plan aims to reduce overcrowding and improve chapel order. Marian Wiley leads a student government effort to push the proposal to President Boatwright for approval.
ODK sponsors a four-college intramural basketball tournament set for February 26. Semifinals and final games will feature Randolph Macon Hampden Sydney William and Mary and Richmond College with no admission. Final match precedes Richmond VMI, and local officials will referee using available intra-mural staff.

Tappahannock attorney Fleet Dillard, a Hampden Sydney and University of Richmond graduate, was appointed last week as an assistant to William R. Shands, director of the State Division of Statutory Research and Drafting. Governor Price announced the appointment, supported by Senator John Battles. The post was previously held by L G Caldwell, who joined the State Tax Department in June as director of the division of individual taxes.
A survey of 78 388 undergraduates across more than 500 colleges finds 2 percent infected with syphilis, close to noncollege peers of the same age. The study, prepared for the Journal of the American Social Hygiene Association, notes an age range up to 24 in the college sample.

Melton D D longtime pastor of Freemason Street Baptist Church Norfolk was named Norfolk s first citizen for 1938 He attended the University of Richmond from 1889 to 1892 and remains an active alumnus His selection by the Norfolk Cosmopolitan Club honors his civic religious leadership and work with denominational colleges in the state The announcement cited his thirtieth year at the church and his unifying efforts across Norfolk churches and colleges
Dean Hudson has been signed to play for Midwinters on January 27 and 28 with Friday and Saturday dances and a Saturday tea dance. The Florida Clubmen, led by Hudson, recently rose to fame with top performances and record crowds at venues including The Normandie Boston Hampton Beach Tantilla Gardens and Totem Pole. The event plans promise one color scheme cellophane ceilings intermissions novelties and a reasonable admission.
