Dr. Boatwright announced 155000 in endowments to start the 1989 1940 session. A 100000 William B West history chair will fund a class on Southern development taught by Dr Samuel C Mitchell. A 65000 from the late Dr Margaret Kuyk supports equipment and maintenance for preventive medicine. Enrollment rose to 1760 from 1597 with strongest gains in the Evening School of Business.

Six University professors will deliver the 1939 annual faculty lectures starting February 13 at 8 15 P M in the Evening School of Business Administration auditorium. Dr John W Bailey opens with A Project in Fish Conservation in Virginia. Subsequent talks include Isabel Harris on The Milky Way, Marion Green on Bombs and Bocks in Spain, Curtis W Lampson on The Modern Alchemist, Robert Axtrop on Mental Twists and Kinks, and G M Modlin on Social Control of Industry in Democracy with various presiding deans and professors on February 20 27 March 6 13 and 20.

New Trustees Elected Four Retained On University Board
Two new trustees join the University Board of Trustees and four members are re elected for eight year terms at the semi annual meeting last Wednesday. R. B. Harris Class 36 Dies in Florida
Robert Bryan Harris of the class of 36 died in Clearwater Florida after illness. He was twenty three and served as business manager of the Web and member of the PD ODE and PDO fraternities. He attended T C Williams Law School when taken ill.

Boatwright Rejects Plan For Chapels
President Boatwright rejected on January 16 the plan for four Friday convocations monthly with only two compulsory, proposed by Marian Wiley of Westhampton College Government and supported by Dean May L. Keller to ease crowded conditions and noise. No immediate action will be taken by Westhampton College students.

John B. Jordan was elected president of the Samuel Chiles Mitchell Literary Society at the last meeting before exams. The Westhampton College Junior Class hosts its annual prom tomorrow night from nine to twelve in the Women’s Activities Building gym. The Winter Carnival theme features a magic rink, blue and white colors, and twenty four dances including a mid program figure by Professor Al toh Williams and Mary Sue Garter. Favor presentations by Mrs. Dallas Grubbs follow the figure, with refreshments during intermission and after, and Roy Hicks leads the local orchestra for the break dances.

Kaltenborn Wows Welcoming Crowd In Norfolk Visit
Reporter Ed Arendall recalls H. V. Kaltenborn arriving by train to Norfolk and greeting locals with a friendly smile. Kaltenborn, famed CBS analyst, joked about presiding over his own misgivings and appeared jovial during his brief WMBG microphone session before the mayor’s broadcast.

Dr. James G. Needham, Cornell biology professor emeritus, addressed the University of Richmond Convocation on "The Components of Social Behavior." He helped dedicate the biology building in 1933 and led a Maryland Hall round-table on "Biology and Its Relations to Life and Language." He began his career at Knox College.
