At 10:22 Tuesday morning Athletic Director Dobson opened a conference of college representatives. Dr. Boatwright was elected to preside and The Richmond Collegian editor named temporary secretary. The discussion on the constitution occupied the time until 1 o'clock with adjournment noted.
Great consternation swept the campus Monday night when the power-house whistle blew in full force after supper. Students from both sides of the lake rushed to the power-house to discover the cause, learning it was a town effort to locate Mr urns as a boiler sprang a leak.
President Boatwright announced a potential five building program contingent on raising funds. He cited a General Education Board stipulation that redirected three hundred thousand dollars from a million dollar campaign into a permanent endowment, delaying new construction. Alumni and friends are urged to support the effort to keep the university competitive.
Dr F W Boatwright president of University of Richmond and Mrs Boatwright plan an extended trip abroad. They will leave New York February 4 aboard the Lapland and return May 25 after touring larger universities and studying their systems.
The Debating and Forensic Council of the University of Richmond outlines a February 17 Trinity College debate, early April NYU clash, and a probable session meet with Randolph Macon. A dual event with Trinity requires a six man team.
The Spiderdom basketball season opens tonight at 8:30 in the University Auditorium with Richmond facing Bridgewater College. Starting five for Richmond likely includes Carlton center Ziegler and Fray forwards Bethel and Allen guards. The Red and Blue meet University of South Carolina in the follow up game Monday night, with the same starters expected to begin, though a permanent unit may take time.
An alliance of smaller Virginia and North Carolina colleges forming the Virginia North Carolina Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established after a full day of talks. Dr I W Boatwright of the University of Richmond became first president with A L Hook of Klon as vice president and W McWane of Lynchburg as secretary treasurer. The group adopted a sturdy constitution and aims to regulate freshmen participation without disbanding smaller schools.
Richmond College Glee Club manager K M Johnson announces a January 26 concert in the Red Cross Building Westhampton. The program includes classical and popular songs by the club solos and the college quartet. The present quartet features Walden Jester Gwaltney and Marsh. The club aims to tour nearby sections of the state.
