Rhodes scholars named from University of Virginia wins

Sanford and Stuart Cook of Richmond College failed to win Rhodes Scholarships in Virginia State trials held Friday. Duncan Lee of Yale and William S Mundy Jr of Lynchburg, a Virginia law student, were the successful candidates. The five alumni of the University of Virginia formed the examining committee.

Dean Announces First Semester Exam Schedule

The dean's office releases dates for exams from January 23 to February 2. Specific times are set for classes meeting on Monday through Saturday, with English I finals on all sections and math sections on certain days. No changes allowed except cross-section seating by permission for multiple sections.

Nobel Laureate Dr. Urey To Speak At Richmond College

Nobel Prize winner Dr. Harold C. Urey will address the Chemistry Club of Richmond College this afternoon at 4 in the physics lecture room. The address is part of a college series and will cover topics of current scientific interest.

Plans Fail For Joint Publication At Two Colleges

Westhampton College executive council and Richmond College student senate abandoned plans for a joint Messenger magazine this year after eight months of talks. The main obstacle was reconciling each college budget with no funds available, leaving the first issue delayed as negotiations ended without agreement. Richard Poage, Richmond College student government president, cited lack of funds and regret over delays and failed talks.

Westhampton Senior Co-ords Celebrate Birthday Dinner

On Monday evening January 7 the Senior Class of Westhampton held a formal dinner in the Westhampton Dining Room to review four years of activities. Betsy Cannon, Beverly Bates, Peggy Brown, and Florence Rhea Talley performed humorous accounts of each class year while Ann Weir toasted the sister class. The sophomores hosted then cut the birthday cake in the Drawing Room and presented a large candy box to the seniors.

IRC Will Hear Talk On France

Miss Elsie Nolan a French professor at Westhampton will lead a discussion of recent French political events at the International Relations Club meeting. The event is Sunday January 18 at 4 o'clock at Dr Susan Loughs home. Nolan was in France last February during riots following the Stavinsky scandal and wrote an article on the situation for a Richmond newspaper.

FERA Men Carry Out Best Traditions of U S Service

Alumni Plan for Mitchell Celebration Dinner at John Marshall

Preparations for a testimonial dinner for Dr. Mitchell on Wednesday January 21 at the John Marshall Hotel are near completion. Six former students and university alumni form the organizing committee with invitations sent to friends and former students including many of Dr. Mitchells pupils. Fine Exhibit Displays Rare Volumes at University Library

The University of Richmond library hosts a Monday afternoon exhibit on the third floor annex featuring late mediaeval and early modern manuscripts. Highlights include a 1663 Roycroft Latin Virgil and a 1879 photostatic Codex Alexandrinus copy sent to Charles I, with many antiquities donated by Prof. J. M. Curry and B. Odell Duncan.
