Five From UK To Take Part In Radio Quiz Monday Night

Five contestants from the University of Richmond and Hampden Sydney College will compete in a charity radio quiz at the Mosque Theater Monday night at 8. Proceeds from the Battle of Wits broadcast on WRNL from 8 to 9 go to the March of Dimes infantile paralysis campaign.

Phi Beta Kappa Selects Two Alumni Members

The election of Thomas W. Ozlin of Richmond and Dr Tone Stnessy Wright of Brownsville Texas to alumni membership in Phi Beta Kappa was announced by Dr R E Loving secretary of the University of Richmond Epsilon Chapter. Ozlin a gubernatorial candidate in the state election is a graduate of the University of Richmond with LL B and A B degrees in 1909 and Wright earned a B A from Westhampton College in 1926 and MA PhD from the University of California in 1937 1940. Wright is a member of the State Corporation Commission and Ozlin formerly served as mayor of Ken.

YWCA hosts candid coed etiquette bull session

A Richmond College based YWCA meeting led by Bethne Flanagan explored dating etiquette and what women should know. Students debated questions on asking a date after favors and dating multiple partners, with opinions split on politeness, timing, and commitment.

Yule Ball a Social and Financial Success

The charity ball held before the holidays netted 16 dollars in cash, one live turkey, and about 75 dollars in food. The Richmond Collegians contributed services and the proceeds went to the City Christmas Fund via the Christmas mother Mrs. Miller. A note of thanks followed from Mrs. Miller.

Dr Frederick Boatwright Named to 1940 Virginia Honor Roll

Dr Frederick William Boatwright president of the University of Richmond for 47 years is named to the Virginia Honor Roll of 1940 by the Richmond Times Dispatch. He is among 12 named for service to Virginia in 1940 with selections from various life spheres. The note recalls he became president of Richmond College in 1894 at age 26 the youngest faculty member.

Noted Artists Here Tonight

The second of three University of Richmond faculty concerts features Barbara Jane Elliot a Curtis Institute pianist and Walter Scott a Richmond lyric soprano in the Student Activities Building at 8 30. Elliot has performed with the Philadelphia String Sinfonietta West Oak Lane Symphony and in recitals including a Polish relief benefit. she played Schumann Opus 64 with the Philadelphia Civic Orchestra and was admitted to Curtis at 19. Scott will perform English and Scotch folk songs and Italian numbers in Elizabethan and other costumes. she has sung in six Musicians Club operas and led two. Mrs Frank Wendt directs the program with Hilton Rusty as accompanist.

Mid-Winter Dances Feature Barry McKinley Band and Tea

Barry McKinley’s Romantic Rhythm orchestra headlines Friday night with saxophonist Ray O’Connor and pianist McKinley, while Charlie Randell’s orchestra leads Saturday dances. John Locke announces subscriber admission at 2.00 for the set or 1.00 per night, tea dance 50 cents. non-subscriber 3.75 for the set, 2.00 per dance and tea 0.75.

Rector Dr Giles B Palmer to Speak at Vespers in Richmond

St Stephen's Church rector Dr Giles B Palmer will address the weekly Vespers program Sunday at 7 in Cannon Memorial Chapel Richmond. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from the University of Richmond and has spoken on campus many times. Joe Wornom of the Y Cabinet will preside, and Mrs Edith Harker will provide music.
