Pay Phones to Be Installed in Two Barracks

Two barracks B and C at the University will receive pay telephones next week. Officials said the campus needs a central switchboard, but the board has not approved funding. Phones will remain unbooth ed for now and dormitory lines will pay rent.

David F. Duggan and Howard W. Taylor Jr. are nominated for Sophomore Senator to fill the remainder of Nelson Weber’s term after his resignation. Thad Crump, SG president, announced the secret ballot will be cast at the Sophomore Class meeting in the Physics Building on January 13, with the election run by Senate members.

Midwinter Dances At Richmond To Feature Glen Gray And Casa Loma Orchestra

University of Richmond announces Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra will perform at the annual Midwinter Dances on February 20 and 21. Gray makes his first Richmond appearance under a Music Corporation of America arrangement. The band will include 17 musicians led by Pats Daniels and Tommy Harrington. The venue depends on a Trustees meeting deciding on Keller Hall use.

The S C Mitchell Literary Society chose Harry Mears as president and Phil Rosenfeld as vice president at Monday’s meeting. Members are urged to attend next Monday when remaining officers will be elected for the upcoming semester.

Vets Need VA OK To Reenter School

Veterans on the GI Bill who pause study must obtain a supplemental certificate of eligibility from the Veterans Administration before resuming training. The certificate shows remaining training entitlements. Reentering without it means no official entry and no subsistence until issued. If the previous course was completed, the certificate is issued quickly. if not, full professional counseling is required.

Robert Dementi of Dementi Studios Richmond will lecture the University of Richmond Gamera Club on portraiture and lighting at the weekly meeting Tuesday at 12 45 pm in the Playhouse. Messenger seeks literary submissions for February issue

Editor Pat Velenovsky announced the Messenger will accept articles and short stories for the February issue. Submissions must include the writer’s name and telephone number and be slipped under the Playhouse Messenger office door. Deadline is Wednesday February 4.

A Student Senate committee led by Bill Hinnant examines budget needs and four year trends to justify increasing the Student Activities Fee from 20 to about 25 dollars. The plan would boost non athletic activities including Glee Club Forensic Council University Players and student publications.

The University International Relations Club hosts a round table on The Russian Personality in the Faculty Sitting Room, Westhampton College, at 7:30 p.m. Tonight speaker George W. Bakeman, former special assistant to the U.S. ambassador to Moscow, joins Dr. Spencer D. Albright and several undergraduates with wartime Russian ties.
