Mock Trial Set at Law School Building

Law School hosts a full-scale mock trial in its courtroom Saturday morning January 8 at 10 am. The case in the Circuit Court of the University of Richmond involves Gene Tinney as administrator of John Tinney deceased versus Power Oil Co Inc and Silas A Motley over kerosene gasoline mixed fuel that caused a five year old boy's death. Plaintiffs seek up to 25000 under the death by wrongful act statute with a jury of seven from Richmond College Westhampton College and the Business School.

IBM Delegate To Be Entertained

The University of Richmond Chapter for the Advancement of Management will entertain a representative from IBM at its Tuesday meeting in Room 102 of the School of Business Administration Building at 11:30 A.M. Cliff Houff of IBM will discuss current and future developments in office machinery and accounting mechanization. Non members are invited.

Religious Emphasis Week Adds Noted Educator and Civic Leader

The University names Dr. Eric Rust and Mrs. Evan Lacy to its Religious Emphasis Week team. Rust, a London and Oxford trained professor with seven degrees, has held posts in England and the United States and spoken at international religious events. Lacy, Westhampton College graduate and South Boston civic leader, serves on regional boards and led local community projects.

University of Richmond Students to View IBM Demonstration

Faculty and student representatives from the University of Richmond are invited to a Washington D C IBM demonstration. The all day event, organized by International Business Machines, will be held next Tuesday at the Washington IBM Building with Dean Gray and others attending.

Westhampton to mark YWCA centennial celebration

Westhampton College will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the national YWCA with a program in Keller Hall at 8 p m Thursday. Members of the YW will present a history skit and alumnae will enact scenes from the Y’s 40 year history at Westhampton. Aimee Lee Raveling leads the centennial event.

Platter-Playing Preacher Ramblin Willie Chooses Ministry

Bill Gwaltney once a top hillbilly disc jockey and current Richmond College freshman has decided to pursue Baptist ministry. He now serves as student associate pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church and hopes to lead a church of his own, earning the nickname Platter-Playing Preacher.

Pencil Sharpeners Toast Campus Convenience

Richmond College Student Government placed sharpeners across the campus. One in each barracks, two in each dorm, one upstairs in the administration building, and one in biology and chemistry buildings. Some existing units were repaired.

Illusion of Richmond College study period ends

Richmond College students learned that three days labeled as a study period before exams were a calendar typo. Dean Pinchbeck apologized and said no study period will be observed at Richmond, while Westhampton College has long held reading periods starting midweek.

Portraitist Stanislav Rembski to Speak on The Abyss of Modern Art

Polish born artist Stanislav Rembski, painter of Woodrow Wilson portraits, will discuss The Abyss of Modern Art at 8 30 p m Friday January 14 in Keller Hall under the Thomas Leecture Foundation. He lives in Baltimore and became a U S citizen in 1929. The talk follows a faculty staff dinner at Westhampton College Tea Room.

Westhampton freshman Bib Willard earns Red Cross award

Mary Elizabeth Willard of Alexandria a Westhampton College freshman received a framed certificate from the Surry County Red Cross for rescuing two boaters from the James River in August. She and 13 year old Joseph Brown saved Mr and Mrs A Porter of Warren Ohio after their sailboat capsized near the Willard cottage. Earl Pierce of Arlington was rescued by another boat.
