Intersociety Debates Open With Close Decisions

Three societies held first round debates on installment buying's impact on national economy. Mu Sigma Rho and Philologians contested at Samuel Chiles Mitchell and Y M C A venues with close verdicts. Finalists to be decided Monday night as contests continue.

Judge J. Hoge Ricks Addresses Students at Chapel

Richmond jurist and University of Richmond alumnus Judge J. Hoge Ricks spoke at Convocation last Friday. He traced his start as a city probation officer and his focus on juvenile crime and reform, noting many offenders come from decent homes and stressing reforms over lengthy reform-school confinement.

Three One Act Plays To Be Given Tonight At 8 15

University Players present a program of three one act plays and dance interpretations at the Red Cross building tonight at 8 15. The winning play Son's Father by Mary Lucile Saunders debuts from the Alpha Psi Omega contest.

Pan Hellenic Affair Outstanding Social Event

Last Friday night from 9 to 1 in Millhiser Gymnasium a major social event opened the year. Ben Hurley directed décor turning the gym into modern beauty with black and white streamers unique lighting and a striking setup. The Carolina Tarheels provided music and were praised as one of the Souths best college orchestras. Jack Wright chaired the interfraternity dance committee and handled ticket sales. A large crowd attended and the affair was deemed highly successful.

Letters Urge Prompt Budget Fee Payments On Campus

The Web staff mails letters to all students urging timely payment of this year’s budget fees. A vigorous collection campaign continues until all payments are made, with the photographer returning January 11 for campus shots. Upperclassmen and fraternities’ freshmen must schedule appointments before Christmas with named coordinators. The week includes group pictures for literary societies, clubs, and the Freshman Class. The T. C. Williams Law School will continue activities.

Debaters Open 1931 Season with Mixed Results

The Inter collegiate Debating Team split their first Virginia debates of the season. Bolling Ellis and James Dodd led the affirmative at Lynchburg College, but Richmond won 3-0. at Roanoke College the team lost by critic judges' decision.

The Westhampton Senior Class invites the student body and faculty to a formal tea Sunday December 13 from 4 30 to 6 in the drawing room Miss Keller and class officers will receive A musical program led by Helen Le Grande and Alize Cole chairs the tea planning The event continues a traditional midwinter social to foster student faculty acquaintance and Christmas spirit.

P D E Survey of Campus Opinion Is Complete Success

The Pi Delta Epsilon survey at Richmond College shows over 500 students favoring a compulsory budget fee for next year with final figures expected between 90 and 95 percent. Some absences remain to be contacted to finish the poll and reasons for refusals will be recorded.

YWCA Christmas Bazaar Set for Red Cross Building

Y W C A will sponsor the annual Christmas Bazaar in the Red Cross Building on December 15 from 7 30 to 10 P M. Four classes have begun work on their booths with each class appointing a chair to assist Jessie Miller Jones Evelyn Gardner will run the Seniors Ann Dickenson the Juniors Dorothy Leighty the Sophomores and Sue Cook McClure the Freshmen Freshmen last year won the most attractive display and all are urged to participate in decorating efforts.

Christmas holiday dates to be announced soon at Richmond College

A petition signed by nearly all Richmond College students asks the University to close on Saturday December 19. The faculty has discussed the request but has not yet decided. An official Christmas break date will be announced within the next few days.
