Three men will be chosen today at 3 o clock in the Richmond College auditorium to form the University of Richmond forensics team. The group will meet Duke University in Durham February 5 on the topic that organized labor should enter politics as a separate party.
Westhampton College Glee Club presented a successful concert in the Red Cross building last Friday night directed by Mrs. I Flaxington Harker with Miss Allene Booker at piano. Seven selections ranged from Istudiantina to Sweet and Low while violin solos duets were offered by Elizabeth Taliaferro Elsie McClintock and Florence Booker. The program benefited from Mrs Harkers devoted direction and generosity of time.
Richmond College students voted by a large majority in favor of the World Court at the auditorium poll last Tuesday. One hundred sixty seven supported America entering the court under the Harding Hughes Coolidge Reservations while sixty two voted for.
President Boatwright secured Professor Edgar L. Hewitt of the Institute for American Research to address University of Richmond students in chapel. Hewitt, a leading scholar near the U S Mexico border, spoke during the Archaeological Institute gathering today.
Students at Westhampton College voted unanimously at a chapel meeting last Friday to recommend to the senate that the United States enter the World Court immediately. The move hopes colleges nationwide will influence lawmaking on the issue.
Dr. Nixon of Brick Presbyterian Church Rochester spoke at Westhampton College chapel. He urged developing personal individuality through conviction while stressing responsibility to others and linking radical self-expression with social duty.
The local campus Omicron Delta Kappa honorary fraternity plans to publicly announce prospective initiates at 11 o clock Tuesday in the Richmond College chapel. Dr. Edgar L Hewitt was to speak today prompting the postponement of Friday morning activities.
The November honor roll lists sixty students with an average of B or better for the month, down from sixty two. Seniors nearly one third of honorees, with nineteen fourth year men the largest class. Only two earned A grades in every course, hinting at near 100 percent graduation.
During the week of November 30 a training school for church workers was held at the First Baptist Church. University of Richmond students led classes including O. W. Pebworth W. B. Denson and others. Prof N B Willingham lectured on The Books of the Bible. The program, run by J T Watts and E J Wright, enrolled about six hundred attendees.
Westhampton College YWCA to give Christmas boxes to girls at Kilbourne Farm industrial school. Each box to cost no more than one dollar under the usual holiday custom.
Half of the class representation fee for The Spider Richmond College section must be paid by end of the first term. Roland J. Payne, business manager, announced the payment can be made to Payne or R. B. Cheatham, assistant manager. Seniors pay eight dollars.
Dean May L. Keller entertained freshmen at a Sunday supper party. September to December birthdays were celebrated with miniature cakes and candles on a table arranged as a glowing twenty nine in the class colors yellow and white.
President Walden calls for full student attendance next Monday during chapel to debate the honor code. The main topic is cheating with a working definition to be crafted and speeches on breaches of the system to be delivered by student speakers.
Tau' Kappa Alpha, national honorary forensic and debating fraternity, discussed membership eligibility at the local chapter meeting held last Wednesday night in Room J. No final decision was announced, but steps to raise standards to make election more difficult are anticipated.
The Kappa Alpha Fraternity will hold its biennial convention in Richmond on November 29 30 31 at the Jefferson Hotel with 500 to 800 members and delegates from the South. The program includes a 9 AM business session initiation at 5 30 PM with speakers from William and Mary Randolph Macon and Southern College a smoker at the Westmoreland Club a ball at the Country Club led by General Jo Lane Stern and a final banquet at the Commonwealth Club. Dr Chandler plans a short historical tour after the event.
