Westhampton Chapel Led by Four Students

Westhampton College chapel featured a talk titled Art Movements in Richmond delivered by four student members. Vivian Harnett described the Richmond Academy of Arts founded in 1786 and reorganized in 1931 as the Richmond Academy of Arts, detailing its aim to unite science and all art branches and to sponsor contests, exhibits, lectures, and the Beaux Arts Ball each spring.

Senior Class Tea at Westhampton College Drawing Room

The Senior Class at Westhampton College will host a formal tea in the Drawing Room from 4 to 6 on Sunday, December 11. The faculty and students are invited to attend. this is the only event where the Senior Class entertains the student body as a whole.

Harlequin Club Elects New Members and Schedules Dance

The Harlequin Club elected new members to fill vacancies at a recent meeting. New social members include Waldo Miles and Spotswood Taliaferro among others from Phi Gamma Delta Pi Kappa Alpha Kappa Alpha Sigma Phi Epsilon Theta Chi and Kappa Sigma. The first dance of the season is set for tomorrow 9 to 12 at the Phi Kappa Sigma House with Henry Bryant and lip orchestra.

The University of Richmond invites students to today’s Convocation featuring Dr. W. C. Carver of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Carver, tied to Baptist educational work, will share a varied set of facts drawn from his background as a Richmond College alumnus and M. degree holder.

Inter-Frat Bridge Tournament Planned With Two Leagues

The Inter-fraternity Council outlines a two league two match team event with two teams per fraternity identified by Arden Howell and Mac Trawick. Winners advance to face other league champs for the Inter-fraternity title as plans also include a February 14 dance depending on available orchestra.

Circus Success Through Westhampton Aid From Groups

The Red Cross Building became a circus tent for a Westhampton event on December 2 1932. The Y W C A organized a four ring show with each class performing acts and running booths. Seniors reenacted Rat Night performances while Juniors showcased acrobatics and trapeze, Sophomores displayed animal skits, and Freshmen sang and danced.

Richmond Westhampton beauty and popularity contest planned

The Collegian and The Web at the University of Richmond will run a beauty and popularity election after Christmas break. Voters from Richmond and Westhampton will select six prettiest women from Westhampton and the most handsome men from Richmond with results showing in campus publications.

Four Initiated Into Phoenix Organization at University of Richmond

Celebrating four new members Margaret Slaughter Geo Shetter Lee Harksdale and Richard wens the Phoenix Society held a December fifth initiation banquet at the Gypsy Tavern. The honorary biology group began as the Ether Club in 1923 and became the Phoenix in 1927 after a biology building fire. Members are selected for scholarship and ability in biological sciences with consideration for other qualities.

Westhampton to Adopt New Plans in Next Elections

Westhampton student government held its third meeting in the Red Cross building on December 7. President Mildred Alexander announced a new plan for officer elections to begin January 1, with seven weekly secret-ballot nomination and voting rounds.

The Sophomore Class of Richmond College votes to suspend ten regular rat rules and adopt one general rule to be enforced from December 12, 1932, to the Sophomores' arrival, in response to the University of Richmond football victory on Thanksgiving Day.

Richmond Chemist Lectures to Omega Upsilon Phi Fraternity

Dr. William R. Cornthwaite of the University of Richmond Chemistry Department spoke at the weekly Omega Upsilon Phi Medical Fraternity meeting on the Relation of Chemistry to Medicine. He described life as the most complex chemical and physical phenomenon and explained related phenomena in an instructive lecture.

El Picaro Presents Amusing Spanish Skit at Club Meeting

The Westhampton Spanish Club El Picaro staged a humorous skit from Alarcon’s El sombrero de tres picos at the Drawing Room on Monday evening December Sth. Frances Lumsden led Tio Lucas while Mary Louise Quacken bush portrayed Sena Frasquita and Helen Wilkinson played Senor Corregidor. The program closed with Spanish Christmas carols and a bracelet sale. Next meeting at 4 30 pm December 1th will feature the Three Wise Men gift event and a member gift exchange.

Richmond College Adopts Twenty Points System For Officers

The Student Government approves a twenty point limit for college officers with one amendment granting honorary fraternity secretaries the same points as presidents. The plan, proposed by Ed White, Bob Ferrell, and Garnett Snead, takes effect immediately and limits overall duties to ensure efficient administration.

Miss Isva Gravatt, director of the House of Happiness, spoke at Westhampton College about Richmond's settlement house on Venable Street run by Baptist women. The program includes classes for all ages, recreation, clubs, and a summer camp at Milboro Springs, Virginia.
