Westhampton College hosted its annual Juniors Freshmen wedding at the Red Cross building. The event featured a gypsy camp stage with Ruth Cox as the fortune telling witch and Mary Hicks portraying the castle owner’s daughter.
At a chapel meeting Dean Keller announced fall elections for Pi Alpha Westhampton honor society. Three Senior Class members were elected Virginia McMurtry Louise Massey and Louise Heflin. Current members include Margaret Willis Ruth Bishop Sarah Cudd Elizabeth Tallafiro Cecilia Hunt and Louise Massey.
The varsity club will meet Wednesday at 8:00 P M in the trophy room of the Gymnasium. President Guy Mattox says lettermen from the fall football team will be initiated, minstrel plans for next semester may be discussed, and every letter man is expected to attend with suggestions for Spider Frolics.
Tau Kappa Alpha held its second meeting of the year to plan the Annual Declamation Contest among Virginia High Schools during the George Washington birthday week. Robert W. Edwards was named committee chairman to organize February’s event. the fraternity notes last year’s success under Prof Handy and anticipates continuing sponsorship in coming years.
The Westhampton College Glee Club performed at the State Conference of the Co operative Education Association in John Marshall High School auditorium. They rendered In Thorny Woods Ma Marguerite and O Bon Jesu unaccompanied and received a cordial welcome.
The Richmond affirmative defeated by Lynchburg two to one in the Red Cross building on Friday November 18 while the Richmond negative were also defeated two to one by Lynchburg. Debaters A S Tomilson and E L Honts represented Richmond West Hampton. Lynchburg was represented by H Singleton and J Weaver. Visiting Lynchburg pair F B Cahoon and W L Smith faced Richmond J W Givins and R Norton. Judges were Dr Chamberlain Louis Epes and F W Hoke. The match marks the annual opening of Richmond's debating calendar with past outcomes noted.
The Web staff announces final chance to be pictured for the year book starting Monday December 5 at 9 00 am and continuing until the schedule posted tomorrow is complete. About one hundred men have yet to visit the local studio for photos and must keep to the posted times. Law students will follow groups and begin work immediately after.
The Ministerial Association will meet next Tuesday Dec 6 in the Y M C A building at 7 15 P M Rev O B Falls new pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church and alumnus of this college will speak The annual Jasper Jubilee plans are forming after Christmas with indications it will be the most unusual event held by the ministerial group on the campus
The schedule lists one hour tests during regular class periods. On Monday December 19 classes meet at 9 00 and 11 00 with tests. Tuesday December 20 classes meet at 9 00 and 11 00. Wednesday December 21 classes meet at 10 00 12 00 and 2 00. Thursday December 22 classes meet at 10 00 and 12 00.
Miss Virginia Withers a French professor at Westhampton College was elected president of the Modern Language Association of Virginia at the Educational Conference held in Richmond.
Omicron Delta Kappa will reveal fall choices at a college assembly Monday at 11 00. Joseph Sadler, president, will chair the meeting as names are made public for the first time, a moment many on campus deem the crowning college achievement.
Beginning Monday the daily campus prayers will be under the Y M C A and Ministerial Association. The change aims to boost attendance and give the two groups an active role while maintaining devotional, non sermon like services led mainly by faculty. Presidents Kincheloe and Stubbs expect regular attendance and an engaging experience for students.
A Philologian Literary Society member, P. E. Taylor, is sued by his wife for divorce and $50,000 alimony on grounds of extreme cruelty and desertion. The case is to be heard Monday night December 12 in Room R before Judge W. Lee Smith. attorneys, sheriff, witnesses, and jurors to be disclosed.
The Debating and Forensic Council of the University of Richmond outlines the 1927 28 debating calendar. A southern tour is planned with Duke, South Carolina, Furman, and Florida likely to meet. Home debates are set with Rutgers and Clark, with Florida possibly returning. Wake Forest invites Richmond to Chattanooga for a Southern Baptist Convention debate in May 1928.
The Spider Chanters proceed with a semester program of sacred music before the Richmond B Y P A Association at Calvary Baptist Church Sunday afternoon. Selections include The Lost Chord and In Thee O Lord Have I Put My Trust. Soloists are Haddon Dudley Harold Wood and W S Sheriff with a quartet and octet. On Dec 10 a delegation travels to Fife Goochland County Virginia for another performance.
The University of Richmond Players returned from Loudoun County Sunday afternoon November 20 tired but happy after two successful performances of The Merchant of Venice. The twenty two actors rode a chartered bus via Fredericksburg and Alexandria to Lincoln for the 6 30 pm show with a late curtain and strong audience reaction. They then traveled to Leesburg where a banquet awaited them in the high school basement before continuing home.
