University of Richmond trustees favor a new journalism course in Newspaper English. The Executive Committee referred the petition to the Richmond College faculty for consideration with May 2 faculty meeting to decide. The Collegian sponsors the request signed by fifteen interested students.

New Spider Band Plans First Out of Town Concert
The University of Richmond Band schedules its first out of town appearance for Wednesday April 24 at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg Virginia. The group travels by chartered bus leaving Wednesday afternoon and returning the same night. This kicks off a tour of educational institutions across the state with further local spring concerts likely. William T. Sinclair, longtime South music figure, directs the band.

Moot Trial at T. Williams Law School Delivers $5,000 Verdict
A moot trial at T. Williams Law School on April 11 debated Gocenour v Standard Oil. Judge Charles Maurice of Richmond presided with Hamill Jones and Herbert Headen for the plaintiff and BE Parker Brown of Suffolk and J Newton Covell of Luray for the defense. The jury returned a $5,000 verdict for the plaintiff.

The University of Richmond Board of Trustees executive committee refused to ratify a petition by campus organizations calling for exclusive union music at dances. President Boatwright said it was not the trustees’ jurisdiction. Tutwiler noted final exams may require a North Carolina orchestra if a well known band is unavailable.

Four Richmond College Debaters To Tour State
Richmond College debaters Emmett Warriner Straughan Lowe Gettier Jack Rich and Frank Conner will travel Tuesday for a three day state trip to debate Hampden Sydney Radford State Teachers College and Bluefield College. The team will meet Hampden Sydney on April 28 and Bluefield College to end the tour with the affirmative on the isolation topic.

Omicron Delta Kappa’s request to alter how Richmond College Student Activities fees are collected was denied by the Board of Trustees Executive Committee last Thursday. The trustees said arrangements rest with Student Government, not ODK, and the present system remains in place.
