University Annual Due Late May

The 1925 Web at the University of Richmond is in the printer’s hands. Editor W A Brockenborough says the volume should appear about the latter part of May if no delay occurs. The staff has completed work earlier than in recent years and aims to be the best technical artistic and literary publication yet.

Furman University Wins Over Locals

Debaters from Furman University defeated representatives of the University of Richmond in an intercollegiate contest at the Red Cross Building last Friday. The Furman team led by Gathings and Fowler argued for adopting a cabinet parliamentary system, while Richmond’s Wilkins and Blanks contended against it.

Ministerial Students Plan Annual Night Hike

The Ministerial Association will hold its annual night hike on Friday May 8 the date of the full moon. A river trip is expected with lavish refreshments being planned by association members.

University of Richmond Forms Sigma Theta Phi Honorary

Under Prof R By Harris head of the business department students at the University of Richmond organize Sigma Theta Phi an honorary fraternity. It will admit junior and senior men based on scholarship character leadership and service. Eligible majors include all business courses. Keys symbolizing membership have been ordered and will appear on members’ chains soon.

Trio of One Act Plays Set for April 24 at Red Cross

University Players stage three one act plays on Friday April 24 at 8 o'clock in the Red Cross Building. Casts have rehearsed since term began and feature Aria de Capo by Edna St Vincent Millay presented by Westhampton students. The Stepmother by Arnold Bennett is the second piece and Thread of Scarlet by J J Bell concludes the program.

Dr H G Noffsinger Elected President of Junior Colleges

Dr H G Noffsinger president of Virginia Intermont College and alumnus of Richmond College was elected president of the American Association of Junior Colleges. His leadership has overseen enrollment growth from 165 to 365 at Intermont and multiple building and facility improvements.

University to stage Romeo and Juliet for commencement

Shakespearean production chosen by University of Richmond Players as this year’s commencement play. Susie Blair, a graduating student, will portray Juliet, with Warren McNeill as Romeo, Chappell as Mercutio, Freedley as Benvolio, and Lewellen Davis in a noted role.

Winter Honor Roll Led by J U Tatum and Five Aces Tie

The dean's winter honor roll lists J U Tatum with six A grades at the top. Ties for second place feature five A’s by WS Sheriff S W Chappell and J M Snelling. The list includes numerous students with two to three A grades, reflecting rising honors across the roll.

Students Organize Society for Industrial Democracy Charter

The Fabian Chapter formed Friday April 10 with seven members led by G Cary White as president and A Stephan Stepanian as secretary treasurer. The group seeks an intelligent understanding of the labor movement and a social order focused on production for use rather than profit.

Richmond College to appoint cheer leader by student committee

A special committee of Richmond College students will select the spring term cheerleader from the junior class. The panel includes the Student Government president, Varsity Club president, Athletic Association president, and two student-body appointees.

May Day Preparations Underway at Westhampton Campus

Preparations for the annual May Day celebration at Westhampton College are active. Rehearsals have begun and staff for the fete has been selected. The May queen and maid of honor were chosen by vote, but the winner will be revealed only on the morning of the event.

U O R Receives Scholarships From Many Donors

The University of Oregon Regents report 36 new scholarships since last June and one new fellowship after raising the William Penn and Mary emily West Marrow fellowship. Dave M. Miller is named for the R. Fuller Patterson fellowship 1925 1926 with others to be filled. The university plans to seek about 80 tuition scholarships and ten fellowships covering tuition and extra expenses.

Westhampton Freshmen Present Two Plays

On Saturday evening in the Red Cross Building the Westhampton freshman class staged two one act plays directed by Miss Emily Brown. The Neighbors by Zona Gale and The Fifteenth Candle by Rachel Lyman Field were performed with village characters featuring Corrie Etta Hall.

Rev Shelburne to Deliver Commencement Sermon

Rev. James M. Shelburne of Danville Virginia will preach the commencement sermon this June. Dr. Shelburne has deep interest in university affairs and active welfare work. The committee chair is Clodius H. Willis with further program details to be announced.
