Eight Men Tapped By ODK Honor Society at Richmond College

Epsilon Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa inducted eight new members in a April 4 ceremony at Richmond College. The group includes Beverley Taylor the sole senior and six juniors along with Olin Rogers from the TC Williams Law School. Rogers, a former Hampden Sydney student, holds multiple campus posts and has passed the Virginia bar exam. Taylor, editor of The Web, is active in Pi Delta Epsilon and other groups and has dean’s list honors. The list also features Charles Arendal a Kappa Sigma member who led Freshman Class activities and was editor of The Collegian. (Continued on page 6)

Mortar Board Holds Tap Ceremony at Weathampton

Weathampton's Mortar Board chapter will stage its annual tapping ceremony Monday April 16 at 7 30 p m in the H Jenkins Greek Theatre. President Margaret Proctor will preside with Christine Taylor Dorothy eighty Elizabeth Claybrook Eleanor Hardaway and Virginia Sanford officiating. The group awards spring elections to seniors recognizing junior leadership scholarship and service.

Students Favor Spiders in Collegian Name Poll

The Collegian poll shows 148 still favoring Spiders over changes at the University of Richmond and Weathampton Colleges. Rebels was the next most supported substitute with 51 votes, while other options such as Col onels Mudders Rhinos Bulls Rams and Red Devils appeared in discussion.

Collegian seeks new editorial and business staff

With staff changes taking effect in the next issue The Collegian invites students to try out for reporter feature writer column writer or advertising solicitor roles. Interested students should visit The Collegian office in the Playhouse Monday at 3 PM.

Duke Collegians to Play For Prom At Richmond College

Richmond College Sophomore and Freshman classes sponsor their second annual prom on Friday April 20 from 8 30 to 12 with Johnny Long and his Duke Collegians. One dollar date tickets include a stag option aimed at upperclass attendance to foster class harmony. The Duke Collegians an eleven piece orchestra with three featured vocalists will perform Wayne King style music plus hot tunes. The gym will be decorated in navy blue and white under a committee led by Alfred Dickinson with local students among the organizers. The troupe formed as freshmen at Duke and remain together through 1937 with a busy Virginia tour history.

Westhampton Co-ord Dance Planned by Senior Class

The Senior Class of Westhampton College will sponsor a co-ord dance on Saturday April 14 in the Westhampton dining room from nine to twelve for the benefit of the annual. A popular local orchestra will provide the music for the evening.

University Players Prepare Twelfth Night Directed by Mrs Apperly

The University Players plan a June 9 performance of Twelfth Night in the Greek Theatre at Westhampton College. Mrs. Frank Apperly directs, with tryouts held this week and a cast already tentatively chosen, including alumni returning for graduation and several returning students. Intensive rehearsals will start after cast finalization to avoid exam conflicts.

Thistlethwaite Urges Outdoor Sports Facilities and Intramurals

University of Richmond coach Glenn F. Thistlethwaite calls for expanded outdoor recreation areas to boost participation. He favors more tennis and handball courts and possibly a small golf course behind Jeter and Thomas Halls. He aims to grow intramural programs and engage town students in athletics.

Five new members are appointed to the College Council of Honor by the Student Senate on April 5. Appointees include seniors Sanford Grenoble Ballou, Diggs, and Crawford with Diggs as junior and Crawford as sophomore. Retiring seniors are Cook Trawick Falls and White, with Haddock graduating.

Freund Chosen Head of Harlequin Club

At the TH Club meeting held Wednesday 1 l, new officers were elected for the year. Freund will serve as president with Gilfillan as vice president and Goodman as secretary, Booker as treasurer. New members from Phi Kappa Sigma Kappa Sigma Sigma Phi Epsilon Phi Delta Omega Lambda Chi Alpha Kappa Alpha Pi Kappa Alpha Phi Gamma Delta join the club. A Harlequin Club dance is set for Saturday April 21 at the Phi Kappa Sigma house with Southern Gupte providing the music.
