Sioux County Rural Schools Open. Short on Teachers

Most rural schools opened Monday August 31 with 40 beginning teachers. The County Board of Education will meet September 8 at 2:00 PM to transact business and fill vacancies. The County Superintendent aims to have vacancies filled by next week and publish teacher lists.

Mr and Mrs Joel VanVelzen visited Sioux Center Tuesday evening to see Chris VanOosbree at his parents home. He recently graduated from Navy radio school on August 22 and holds the rank of radioman second class after five months in the U S Navy. He departed Wednesday for Corpus Christi Texas.

Sioux County To Organize Civilian Defense

The Sioux County Defense Council met in Orange City on Tuesday evening September 1 to discuss a Civilian Defense plan. Attendees from Boyden included Mayor Paul McClum and Mri burg. The group outlined five town divisions Police Fire First Aid Warden and Public Utility with each town to host a center. A school will be held in Orange City Thursday evening to train residents in gas defense, aid, and related topics.
