County meeting of local leaders decides not to canvass house to house in Sioux County. A letter campaign will inform all residents with any income about bonds and stamps. 6500 letters to be mailed. Boyden area quota set at 79000 dollars.
S G Vanden Brink was named Commander of the American Legion at the annual meeting held Friday evening at the Henry Bosman home. George Reimers was elected Vice Commander, Henry Van Houte adjutant, Edward Van Zanten finance officer and Geo Horn Sergeant at Arms. The Auxiliary met with the Legion and elected officers. The county meeting will be held in Boyden in September.
Siebe Van Diepen completes rental of the Van Diepen Garage to Ed Jansma who has bought the tools and equipment. Siebe has run the business 23 years in Boyden and, with his brother Sietan, purchased the building in 1919. Following Siebe’s death he operated alone. He is noted for good service and will continue as an instructor at Fort Crook Nebraska.
The Ladies Aid of the Reform ed church held a Friday sale in the church with a program. After the sale and program a lunch was served and proceeds go to missions.
The Women’s Citizenship Club of Boyden begins the 1943 44 year with President Mrs S Schortinghuis calling to order Friday at 745 pm in Boyden Town Hall A Flower Show will be staged and displays welcomed by 2 pm Friday Guests urged Park Committee hosts include Mrs Wargowsky and Mrs Reimers County Women’s Clubs delegate Mrs Vanderburg reports on Grinnell Institute War Service led by Mrs Van Zanten Christmas Seal chair Mrs Stutzman Cancer Education led by Mrs Miller Devotions to be led by Mrs Blumeyer
A state wide daylight air raid drill will occur in Iowa at noon on September 9 1943. The exercise marks the Third War Loan Campaign and trains Defense Corps and the public in air raid signals and procedures. Public coordination and rapid signal timing are emphasized.
Mr and Mrs Jake Dekker with Judy and Jean visited Mrs John Stegeman on Saturday afternoon. The children stayed with their grandmother over the weekend and returned home Monday afternoon.
Farmers Savings Bank Boyden will close Monday September 6 for Labor Day a legal holiday. Stores will not be closed on Labor Day.
The Stores and Meat Market will close Wednesday evenings starting next week.
Elmer Miller rings the last bell Monday morning to start the first day of school and will celebrate 25 years of service to students and the community. He is a fixture in the school system alongside the faculty as Boyden begins with a complete staff.
A special examination in American Government will be held in the Office of the County Superintendent of Schools on Saturday September 4 at 9:00 A M for all out of state teachers needing to complete requirements for an Iowa Teachers Certificate. Report at this time as this will be the last exam before the regular October examination.
Eileen Van Zanten of the Waves based at Whit ing Field Pensacola on leave spoke at the Sioux County Bond Meeting in Sioux Center Friday evening. Attending were her mother Mrs Wm Van Zanten plus Mrs Helen Vanderburg Henry Hosman Henry Rensink Connie Keele Elmer Goodyear and S G Vanden Brink.
The Boelsma threshers picnic was held at Sheldon Park Friday afternoon with many attending families. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. W. Boelsma and numerous relatives such as the Bosman, Burgraaff, Mouw, Moret, Rholf, Koerselman, Boelsma, and Te Paske households and their children.
Mrs. Sam Heemskirk and her children were to do on Wednesday for the Golden Reading anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Triggs. Sam and William Heemskirk joined the party in the evening.
Walter Dickevers will hold a sale on Saturday September 11 with time and details to be listed in next week’s Reporter. Mrs Tony Klootwyk visited the John Vos and Robt Merry homes in Sheldon Friday afternoon discovery of caller events.
Mr and Mrs Klaas Walthuizen and family and Mrs A Dekker were callers in the Henry Boels home Sunday evening.
Walter Dickevers has purchased the residence of John Retsink Jr., finalizing a property transfer. The deal names Dickevers as new owner and transfers the title for the home.
Fihr family members totaling about 75 gathered Sunday afternoon at George park for an annual reunion. Attendees included Jantzen Boliman and Keizer of Sheldon. Fihr and Heitritter families of Boyden. Kruse Sr and Jr. Heitritter. Fuhr Sr. Fuhr. Schl. Karsten. Wulf. Beldt. and the Geerdes family of Everly.
