B Reyelts a well known feeder living northwest of Boyden exhibited a long string of high grade Herefords at the Sioux City market. Forty five head averaged 1108 pounds sold for 12.50 per cwt to Wilson & Co. Also 10 steer head averaging 1216 pounds brought 12.00 and 10 yearlings averaging 985 pounds at the same price.
Prof. Arie Groeters of Stanhope coaches the Boyden boys team in basketball and football. The squad has won six of seven games this season and is poised for a potential championship as the season ends.
Pheasant hunters are told the open season in Sioux county runs November 1 4 5 14 and 15 with all other days closed. Wardens in the territory warn hunters to avoid hunting on closed days.
Women from Boyden and vicinity attended a three day Potter Baking School led by Mildred Noakes, with 70 on average at each session in the Boyden town hall. Demonstrations featured a Skellgas range donated by local hardware stores and a Hoosier cabinet with table donated by Sheldon Furniture. Farmers Co operative Association received another carload of Occident flour for local sale and Boyden Bakery use.
Wm. Wargowsky manager of the local Co operative creamery and two assistants Jerry Notting and Henry Vanden Bosch attend the Ida Grove creamery school operated by A P Tea Co. The questionnaire method and personal attention to creamery supervision and butter manufacture are emphasized. Wargowsky will be in Waterloo next week to judge butter. Blu Rib Bun Fly Spray advertises at $1.25 per gallon.
A critical note targets a Sheldon Mail item by a Hespers woman correspondent calling it biased and incomplete. The writer questions sourcing and the claim that the alleged two members of the fifth encounter were bootleggers and warns of a possible required retraction.
Citizens report a public servant arrested for shooting pheasants out of season with a $50 fine, license and gun confiscated. On Sunday, a Main Street fist fight pitted a Sheldon bootlegger against a Hospers resident over price fixing of band goods, showing bootleggers forming trusts.
Prof. C Mulder superintendent of Hospers Public School was arrested by a state game warden for shooting pheasants out of season. His automatic shotgun and license were confiscated and he was fined 50 dollars.
The Boyden high school's junior class will present the comedy Watch Your Step Wilton Friday night at the Hilton Bros. Drug Co. store. The show was originally scheduled for Thursday and tickets are available at the drug store.
A joint meeting of Sioux County Legion and Auxiliary is set for Granville on Friday November 7 1930 at 7 30 p m. An extensive entertainment is planned for guests including Frank Miles editor of the Iowa Legionaire Mrs Gallaher Spencer Eleventh District committeewoman George Callenius Granville Eleventh District Commander and others. All Legionaires and Auxiliary members are urged to attend.
The W C T U plans a regular Friday afternoon gathering at Mrs C Work’s home with county convention delegates present to report on proceedings. Emma Stutzman is among the delegates. Updated notes on local visits, births, and visitors accompany the meeting agenda.
