Miss Nokes Starts City Bet ter Baking School This Month

Mildred Marie Nokes arrives in town to promote child nutrition and balanced diets. She will conduct a Better Baking School October 27 28 and 29 at the Town Hall with two hour sessions daily and free admission.

Former Boyden Man Ends Life By Hanging

Charles McKee aged in his forties or fifties and owner of a local delivery system and A Y P filling station employee, hanged himself in the barn at his home Tuesday afternoon. His body found about 8 2 o'clock Tuesday night by his son after he failed to return for supper. No clear motive. he had just recovered from flu. Survived by widow, son Carl, and daughter Helen training as a nurse in Boston. The Sioux City Tribune notes he was a former Boyden resident. Also mentions ongoing Kooiman's Store sale with few days left.

Reverend John M. Lumkes, longtime pastor, dies in Holland

The Rev. John M. Lumkes longtime pastor of Boyden First Reformed church died Monday at his Holland Michigan home. He leaves Mrs Lumkes and two daughters Mrs Alfred Hanson of Holland and Mrs Don DeVelder of Chicago. Funeral was held Wednesday. He celebrated forty years in the ministry since May 28 1890 ordination. He served 163 churches and 900 baptisms including 70 children in Holland and 450 sermons. His last sermon March 9 1930 at Fourth Reformed Holland followed by influenza and cancer. He served many congregations across the United States in a career spanning 1890 to 1929. He was pastor emeritus at Holland Nebraska in 1929 and wed Ida Kits of Grand Haven on May 3 1890.

Wother Daughter Banquet Plans For Tuesday

Tuesday October 28 1930 marks the Mother Daughter banquet in Boyden with a full program. Women organize a sumptuous event while men serve as servers and helpers. Programs are printed at the Reporter office and the town hall hosts a baking school in the afternoon inviting all women to attend.
