Boyden School News Shows Home Economics Room Renovation

The home economics room is being renovated under Mrs. Starkweather with new shade fittings and reconditioned furniture. Students created hand painted gourds and milkweed pods to decorate windows and gain practical home making lessons. Illnesses with stomach flu and colds have affected several children. A miscellaneous high school program with a play novelty numbers and musical selections is planned for several weeks from now with announcements to follow.

Library Board Meets at City Library

The Library Board met Wednesday evening with President Mrs. Arie Roggen presiding. Attending members included Mesdames Schortinghuis Starlwea ther Vanderburg and Van Diepen Jr. Mrs. Schortinghuis served as hostess.

P F C Harold J Diekevers, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Ed Diekevers of Boyden, completed training in the Armament Department at the Army Air Forces Technical Training Command Lowry Field Colorado. He reported for duty there August 7 1943 after enlisting May 20 1943 at Lincoln Air Base Omaha Nebraska. He graduated Boyden High School in May 1941 and played on the softball and basketball teams. Before joining the service he worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for Douglas Aircraft Corporation at El Segundo.
