Death claims Matt L Carroll of Company M 52d Iowa Vol Inf

Matt L Carroll of Company M 52d Iowa Volunteer Infantry died September 29 at 10 a.m. at the Red Cross Hospital in Des Moines after typhoid and pneumonia. He was buried in Tama City after a large funeral. A devout patriot, he carried $2,000 in the Modern Woodmen to support his sisters. The piece notes his friendly nature and sacrifice for liberty.

Republican Convention at Orange City Endorses slate

The County Republican convention met in Orange City last Friday. Chairman Myres and Wm Taylor of Center led the session with H Graff of East Orange as temporary chair and secretary. Delegates formed a permanent organization and were urged to cast their full votes for the slate.

The Middlebury democratic caucus nominated town officers. Mr. C DeHovey of Boyden and Miss Brower of Doon wed Wednesday and began housekeeping in the Tony Morrimer house.
