The state department reports Germany has surrendered and an armistice with France will pause hostilities at 11:00 Paris time. The pact lasts thirty days with possible extension and allows denouncement on 48 hours notice if terms fail. The Kaiser’s fate is noted and poems by F Morris Pryde are shared.
Mr C H Kruse and his son Richard called at Sheldon on Friday to have their questionnaires completed. Jake Van Diepen also stopped at Sheldon on Saturday as a caller.
Mr and Mrs D De Velder of Harrison South Dakota announce the death of Marion De Velder youngest brother of the family He died October 12 in a hospital near France while serving with the 88th Division He was 23 He enlisted from Harrison and sailed with the 88th in September A platoon letter from Lieut John J Doyle expresses deep sympathy and praise for his service and character
At about 3 45 A M on Armistice day Boyden townspeople flooded the streets in a grand peace celebration. Bells rang as crowds paraded while a bonfire lit Main Street. The Kaiser's funeral was held at 2 PM led by Dr Axton with a children’s parade and decorated autos. An evening gathering at the school gym featured speeches by local ministers and leaders.
Mesdames H Stehrenberg R C Bryant and Miss Maud Thompson traveled to Sheldon last Friday afternoon while J S Dethmers served as a caller at Sheldon Saturday.
