Poppy Day Observance and Veterans Training Notes

Poppy Day on May 24 honors dead from World Wars with handmade crepe flowers produced by disabled veterans at Des Moines Veterans Hospital and Marshalltown Iowa Soldiers Home. Frances Sitter and Gertrude Bosman will help distribute in Boyden, with contributions requested for veteran welfare. Also announces space for 25 veterans in an on the farm training course in agriculture at Sheldon High School May 26. Mrs. Henry Bosman supervising.

Eighth Graders Stage Annual School Program

Eighth graders entertained Wednesday afternoon for students and parents with a reading of the class history project and will. The class also acted out two short plays and invited Sunday dinner guests from Northwood and Alton to the home of Ben Peters.

Memorial Day Service Plans and Rider Incident

Memorial Day services are set for May 30 at 10 A M in the High School gym and 11 A M at the cemetery with a color advance invocation by Rev Schortinghuis and a band performance by Anna Mine Koole and the Westerman Triplets. Janice Smit, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Smit, fell from her bicycle Monday afternoon injuring her head requiring six stitches.

New Ball Diamond Nears Completion in Hull Area

The new ball park is nearing completion with skinning on the diamond gates for cars and people installed and the back-stop erected. Lights will be installed by Iowa Public Service Company, bleachers built behind the backstop, and seats placed along the baselines. A Thursday game with Hull was canceled. team to gain practice before next game.

Enlistment Rules For Disabled World War II Veterans

Partially disabled combat wounded veterans may enlist in the Army in the grade held at discharge if applying by June 30 1947. Enlistments after July 1 1947 but within 20 days of discharge enlist in the discharge grade. Provisions apply to commissioned warrant and flight officers with enlistment in first grade. Library Board Meets in Routine Session

The Library Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday evening with Mrs. Vanderburg as hostess. Routine business was conducted. Friday evening dinner guests included Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Ingalls and daughter of Sheldon and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Diekevers visiting Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Diekevers.

Boyden School Banquet Transforms Gym Into Fairyland

The Boyden Public School Junior Senior Banquet turned the gym into a fairyland with pastel gowns, court jesters, a golden castle stage, drawbridge, moat, and life size fairy tale characters. Tables decorated as miniature fairylands featured handmade fairies as favors, and a themed menu was served by Sophomore girls. The program included Invocation and toasts, with post dinner events listed.
