June Dairy Month Proclaimed Boosts Midwest Dairy

The eleventh National June Dairy Month is proclaimed with A N Heggen named area chairman for seven Midwestern states and Frank Barker appointed Iowa state chairman. The campaign aims to raise consumer awareness of peak production in June and to boost local dairy promotion across all industry sectors.

Chess group organized in Iowa with regional officers

Phil Gilbertson of Sheldon and Willis Vanderburg of Boyden were elected secretary treasurer and president respectively of the newly formed Iowa State Chess Association in Sioux City after an inter city tournament where Sheldon tied for second behind Omaha with Yankton and Sioux Falls. George Koltanowski of Yankton, a national blindfold chess champion, played on Yankton’s five man team and spoke at a dinner, while speakers included Jack Spence, Bryant W. Holmes, Arthur Tick, and Vanderburg.

Pre School Health Conferences Planned in Sioux County

Rural and town children of Sioux County will have May health conferences organized with the Public Health Nursing Service. Beginners’ Day aims to guide children starting school next September and their parents in health planning. Evelyn Faber will conduct weighing, measuring, and vision testing. Events run May 7 to May 9 at St. Anthony’s Hospers St Joseph’s Granville and Boyden Public School with invitations extended to all beginners.

Players urged to attend Friday diamond ball practice as Boyden gathers material for a competitive club. Jack Rensink elected team manager at the last meeting. Plans call for lighting re arrangement to improve distribution over last year.

Brownie Scouts Learn Basket Weaving At May Day Meeting

The Brownie Scouts met Thursday afternoon at the Van derburgs. Present were Bonnie Coralyn Donna Dorothy Glen ja Kay Marian and Marie Cherrie Smit was a visitor. The project mark was May Baskets and the Brownies learned to weave. Coralyn sang a song and Kay read the story about May Day.

The Red Cross report lists gifts from Boyden $581.15 and Sioux County totaling $7,942.65 via secretary Miss Tim DeLint. Local obituaries note Mrs. J. Boyden School News Highlights Senior Events and Community Visits

The faculty enjoyed a Wednesday lunch served by Miss Mattie Peelen. Senior class announcements and name cards were issued with gold printing and blue Thank You Booklets. A Sheldon Junior College quartet will perform Thursday at 3 30. Mrs Evelyn Faber will meet mothers about starting school next fall. Upcoming Junior Senior banquet and Baccalaureate Services are planned for May 18 and Commencement on May 23 in the Reformed Church. Local visits from Mr Crockett, Mrs Sleeper family, and other residents occurred over the weekend.
