Boyden completed her quota and bought well above her share in the Victory Liberty Loan. The Boyden district’s quota was $88,086 and subscriptions total $106,800 at this writing. Every district in the county has fully subscribed with funds aiding American heroes returning home.
County committees finalize plans for a big Homecoming day at the Sioux county fair grounds. An overseas Red Cross speaker from Chicago will address the crowd alongside a county school pageant recounting Sioux county history and wartime efforts. Games, a ball game between Alton and Hawarden or Orange City, and a community dinner accompany district themed displays of America Victory and Peace.
Memorial Day set for May 30 in Boyden with a full program at Town Hall. The morning gathering begins 9:30, an afternoon session at 2:30 features addresses, music, prayers, and a cemetery decoration of graves with school children. Citizens urged to bring flowers to May 29 home of Mrs. J A Stutzman.
Stores at Boyden will begin Wednesday evening hours starting this week. There will be no change in the pattern until further notice. Plan your shopping with the home merchant.
G A R members are asked to report at the Orange City courthouse at 1 pm on June 5 to join the parade for the Sioux county homecoming celebrating World War soldiers and sailors. Civil War veterans urged to attend. G J Shoemaker, Chair, Com.
