The Iowa State College session will proceed despite the war with courses in agriculture home economics and military drill. Special war courses include red cross work and food conservation for teacher leadership. Instruction is free to Iowans. First session opens June 11 and ends July 20. second runs July 23 to August 30.
Karl Megdelsen serves as pastor. Sabbath School begins at 10 o clock led by A A Kuyper Superintendent. Preaching services at 11 a m and 8 p m. Junior Society meets Sabbath afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Smith and Betts offer lumber deals and Hog wire stock. J A Stutzman attended a aunt funeral at Walnut. J Kamminga installs an electric lighting system on his farm. Mr and Mrs John Johnson visited from Little Rock at local homes. Three shorthorn bulls for sale by Joe Rensink Sheldon. M Veirips sold a 200 acre farm near Boyden for about 215 per acre to Albert Dethmers Edgerton Minn. Claus Winter to run new Standard Oil filling station in Sheldon. Geiger Construction Co. contracted. Winter promises good service.
War Emergency Food Committee of Iowa warns of looming famine as March 1 reserves show sharp declines in wheat and corn. Weak wheat conditions, reduced potato yields, and Argentina crop losses threaten U.S. supply while sheep and wool production appear steady but inadequate to avert hardship.
Pupils of Boyden High School will stage an Indian play titled Pochahon tas at the opera house on Monday evening May 21 to raise funds for a new school piano. Tickets cost 25 and 15 cents. Proceeds help a good cause. Protagonists include student actors under school auspices.

The operetta Windmills of Holland was staged at the local opera house last Friday by town talent under the U P church Ladies Aid Society. The crowd set a record for a home talent show with receipts exceeding 393 after salaries and expenses, to aid good causes. The plot about a Yank trying to sell Dutch windmills ends with the household’s feminine influence outwitting him.
May 7 1917 meeting in Boyden Iowa chaired by Mayor Siddy with Blessing Bergman Stehrenberg Dickevers present and Mahoney absent. Treasurer reports on hand 42.88 after receipts 75.36 and disbursements 704.36, bills totaling 60.30 listed and approved. Clerk C. I. Sarset recorded adjournment after motion.
The B and T Club met Wednesday with Mrs An drew Belling. Clarence Rowe of Matlock has accepted a position in the Work Garage. K Spiikerman a resident of the Huspers vic inity and father of Mr Gerrit Spijkerman died last Wednesday in Holland Michigan at 81 years 5 months 25 days. He leaves three sons and one daughter John Edward Gerritt and Mrs H Ruyers. The body was taken to Hospers for interment in the Presbyterian cemetery last Saturday. Community extends sympathy.
