The spring cleanup removed useless growth and added new benches and a picnic table. Credit goes to Mr. Jake Westra for improving the park, and the community is urged to preserve the enhancements by the Women’s Club.

Obituary for Duane N Green 14 Year Old Boy

Duane Norman Green born March 24 1934 in Boyden Iowa died May 38 1948 in Rochester Minnesota at age 14 years 1 month 9 days after four major operations. Survived by parents sister Sue Ellen grandparents uncles aunts cousins and many friends. He completed eighth grade and attended Boyden High School where he was loved for his pleasant smile and kind nature.

Cancer Drive Ends in Boyden With $148.91 Reported

Mrs. John Rensink Sr notes the Boyden Cancer Drive raised 148.91 in town with more reports to come as other townships finish drives. The American Cancer Society aims to educate and expand its program with contributions. Mrs. Lawrence Miller and daughters of Rock Valley visited Ed Bartman. Mr and Mrs Marion Moret welcomed a son named Lyle Wayne born Monday May 3 at Sheldon Hospital with mother Margaret Uittenbogaard. Mr and Mrs Robert Henning welcomed a son named Robert Dale born Wednesday May 12 weighing 94 pounds.

Boyden High Falls 12 0 In Sectional Opener

Boyden High lost 12 to 0 at Sioux Center in the sectional tournament against Hospers. Scholten allowed 4 hits with 7 strikeouts as Wiese and Vander Berg held Boyden to 3 hits. The local squad, short on offense and with Stykhuis sidelined by mumps, ends the season but joins Junior Legion play this summer.

Billfold Thief May Face Discovery In Town

Report recalls a billfold lost near the bank last week Tuesday. Forty dollars were removed by a passerby, who tossed the billfold from a moving car. Mr and Mrs Martin Baerenwald found two hundred fifty dollars and returned the lot to the bank, while the thief is believed to be local and will likely be identified.

Auxiliary Meets Aide Group On May 18 At Bosman Home

Auxiliary Meets The American Legion Auxiliary will meet Tuesday evening May 18 at the home of Mrs. Henry Bosman. Poppy Day posters entered in the Poppy contest will be judged at that time. Mr and Mrs Andrew Wolt huizen of Sheldon visited in the parental George Brinks home Friday evening. Mr and Mrs Ed Baartman and son Kenneth and Mr Ralph Ackterhof were business callers in Sioux City Friday. The Edna Pollock Missionary Society held their Mothers Day party in the 17 P Church basement Monday evening. The mothers of the society members were guests for the evening. Mr and Mrs Elmer Sleeper and daughter Aileen of Sibley were Sunday dinner guests in the Andrew Bruns home.

National safety warning for winter sports skaters

National Conservation Bureau safety experts warn 10 million Americans will take part in winter sports this season. They urge caution on thin ice and state the minimum safe skating ice thickness is seldom less than three inches to avoid life risking conditions.

Voters in the Independent School District of Boyden Iowa will decide whether to purchase a home for the superintendent and incur up to eight thousand dollars in bonds plus taxes to repay them. Pictures topic studied by Sheridan Flying Rockets club

The Sheridan Township Flying Rockets club held a program featuring picture study talks by LaVonne Meyn and Shirley Harpham. Lois Hundt and Delaine Woelber led a session on proper hanging of pictures, with a group discussion. A demonstration on making a bed by Norma Hollander and Lorraine Harpham and a recreation quiz completed the program. A bake sale at Boyden was planned for May 24. Local visitors included Everett Van Weston and George, and several couples attended dinner and visits in nearby homes. Mrs Vanden Brink suffered a light stroke Tuesday but is improving.
