Farm Outlook Sees Milk Production Surging This Spring
Iowa State College economist Steve Hiemstra notes production peaks in May, not June, with ration costs down about 5 percent and record concentrate use. Pastures improved since April 1, cow numbers down 1 percent, but milk output expected to top 1956 by about 2 percent, while per person dairy use rose to 699 pounds in 1956.

Dairy product prices steady. 1957 outlook cautious
The milk to feed cost ratio favors fluid milk, with 1956 at 1.36 and 20-year average 1.27. Last year's butterfat to feed ratio was 21 versus 23.5 in the 20-year average. Hiemstra predicts dairy prices stay near 1957 levels as production rises with support levels unchanged, limiting upside.

Adopted child rights to inherit from parents upheld
In a probate case Marilyn, adopted by John and Mary Smith, may claim a share of the mother's estate despite Patricia’s administration. The court ruled Marilyn entitled to half of what Patricia received, since adoptees have the same inheritance rights as natural children regardless of contact.
