The American Red Cross of Sioux County plans a free summer swimming program for children aged 7 to high school. Over 2000 youngsters would be taught at two dollars per child, with lessons in five towns and possible travel from Hull. Funding shortfalls threaten to end the program after this year.

Special Selective Service Test Set For May 16 1957
A special Selective Service College Qualification Test will be held Thursday May 16 1957 for students unable to take the regular tests on November 15 1956 and April 18 1957. Applications must be postmarked by midnight May 6 1957. The test is administered by Science Research Associates Inc Chicago with twenty two testing centers at Iowa colleges including Northwestern Junior College Orange City Morningside College Sioux City and Buena Vista College Storm Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Egdorf hosted a farewell for their son Gene who left May 1 for the Armed Services. May 31 Deadline Near For Corn And Soybean Price Support
Sioux county ASC chairman John B. Draager warns May 31 is the deadline to complete loans and purchase agreements for 1956 corn and the maturity date for 1956 soybean loans. County support totals show 744,331 bushels of corn and 188,183 bushels of soybeans with more expected as farmers rush to file. Nationwide, Iowa reports over 110 million bushels of 1956 crops under support with record soybean totals and ongoing redemptions.

About 100 people attended the Spring Beef-Conservation Banquet in Hawarden where Wallace Ogg an extension economist from Iowa State College spoke on the farm income situation Maurice E Eldridge County Extension Director reported. The Soil District Election also took place with Sid Vander Griend and Charles French elected to two and six year terms respectively. Music by the Hawarden Music Department Henry Visser served as Master of Ceremonies. Attendees favored holding the meeting annually.

Easter Cantata Choir Social at First Reformed Church
Easter Cantata members gathered in the church parlors for a social evening. Leonard Van der Hoeven’s tape of this year’s cantata was played. Lee Rensink and Mrs Norman Bell led the entertainment with refreshment coordinators Mrs John Veen and Mrs Robert Dethmers. Grand Opening of Ralston Purina Plant At Sioux City

SICK and INJURED Mr. Art Roggen suffered a severe heart attack and is hospitalized in Sioux Center. He is feeling better. Mr. Chester Sitter had surgery in Sioux Center and returned home. Mrs. Dena Van Nyhuis is convalescing at her daughter’s home in Sheldon after bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Art Kreulen returned from Rochester, Minnesota and resumes part time duties at the Co op Produce. Rev. Henri Steunenberg sprained a leg and cannot fully fulfill duties in Lester Iowa. Rev. and Mrs. Henry Bank left for Grand Rapids Michigan to visit ill father and expect to return by week’s end. Many children in this community are very ill with the measles.
