Boyden Band Wins Superior at Rock Rapids Contest

Boyden high school music groups earned superior ratings at the Rock Rapids contest with the band, Girls Glee Club, and Dorothy Rensink in the mezzo-soprano division all cited. The district contest is set for April 7 to 9 at Storm Lake with Boyden receiving excellent marks for the girls trio, mixed quartet, and mixed chorus. Professor John Fundingsland led the effort as instructor. judges included Everett Timm, R T Fulgham, and Harry D Keller.

New Iowa chess champion to star in Sanborn simul

Chris Bang the Iowa champion will give a simultaneous exhibition in Sanborn on Thursday evening March 31 starting at 8 p.m. Twenty of northwest Iowa’s strongest players, including Bruno Boll A Huibregtse W Vanderburg Dr Mueller J Brandsma H DeJoung and Dr Cashman, will oppose him.
