Gift to Griffin sparks long land contest in Sheldon
In O'Brien County Iowa a squatter named James Griffin has been declared the owner of eighty acres inside Sheldon valued around $125000. The land, unimproved, sparked a major title dispute that could travel to the secretary of interior. Griffin, seen as eccentric yet determined, may emerge as the town's richest man if the decision stands.

Reflections on 1897 Newsmen, Storms, and Local Courts
Cal writes about old Reporter back files and patent medicine ads from 1897. He recalls a Sioux City storm with stalled cars, a calm highway patrolman aiding a stuck officer, and the public’s love of underdog basketball in a tournament. He closes with a wish for B and A championship play.
