The United Presbyterian Church lists Sunday School at 9 45 A M Morning Worship at 11 A M and Evening Worship at 7 30 P M led by Pastor Rev Henry Bank. Community members are invited to attend all services.

Arthur E. Miller returned home from Rochester hospital on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Wm Oldenkamp came home Friday evening from Sheldon hospital after medical care. Mr. Wm Mouw injured his foot this past week after slipping on ice at his home.
Birthday Club gathered Thursday at Mrs Albert Van Gorp home to honor Mrs Philip Van Gorp on her birthday and give a hankie shower as she leaves for Shetón this week. Guests included Mrs Philip Van Gorp Mrs Larry Salmon Larry Lee Patty Mrs Henry Van Velzen Galen Mrs Clifford Vander Wilt Keith Mrs Glen Salmon Mrs Bert Engelsman Danny and Ms Chester Sitter Karen. The afternoon featured games followed by a luncheon.
The Band Parents Association of Sheldon will sponsor a carnival at the community building on Saturday evening March 14. The auditorium hosts booths and free entertainment with a king and queen crowned during the event. The public is invited.
The Farm Department of the Iowa State Employment Service offers an annual Farm Clinic on Thursday afternoons until 4 PM. The program aims to connect farmers with farm hands to minimize travel. Clinic runs through May 14 if needed.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Korthals were Sunday evening dinner guests in the Evert Van Westen home at George. Additional evening guests were Mr and Mrs Gerrit L Korthals and family.
The Red Cross appeals for funds to carry on its work worldwide and stresses that donations help recover from disasters, fund first aid, swimming lessons, battlefield aid, and disaster relief. World chairman J. Kroon will oversee prompts. donations may be left at local banks.
Total votes cast were 199 with L V Grooters 165, Joe C Fuhr 123, Esther Verrips 61, Arthur Kreulen 31, and several with one vote. Three spoiled ballots. For county board education Marinus Inveld led with about 140 votes and Esther Verrips received write ins.
Mr and Mrs Gerrit De Jong and son Arnold and Mr Gerrit Mouw of Sibley spent Monday afternoon in the Wm Mouw home. Mr and Mrs Willis Vande Hoef were Sunday evening visitors in the sie Schortinghuis home in Sheldon. Mrs Henry Van Nyhuis spent this past week in the Henry Van Nyhuis Jr home at Slayton Minnesota.
The drive for community building funds needs 36,000 more to reach its goal. Final collections occur this week as a group forms the 1,000 Club led by Larry Salmon to push the project ahead. Citizens may join by contacting the Community Building Committee.
The State Office of Civil Defense explains a $150000 appropriation split into a $50,000 revolving fund for local purchases with 50‑50 federal matching, and a $100,000 biannual operating allowance. It notes expanding staff and equipment, with the 2 cent per person yearly cost intended as affordable insurance for Iowans.
A school transportation clinic was held at Sheldon on March 6 in the High School building. Attendees included Mr. Henry Heusinkveld, Larry Salmon, and Supt. G. J. Vanden Berg. The meeting drew strong interest and active participation as bus drivers sought better driving practices and a safe transportation program. Superintendents and board members benefited from explanations of administrative procedures.
Boyden High School presents an evening recital at the school auditorium on Thursday March 19 at 8 00 p m featuring the school band and large vocal groups including boys and girls glee clubs and choruses with small groups sextets quartets and solo numbers under the direction of Mrs Blemaster Many numbers are selections for the Preliminary State Music Contest at Sheldon March 27 and 28 and at Arnolds Park May 1 and 2
A Brookhaven study by 100 scientists educators and business leaders warns that public apathy risks national civil defense preparedness. It urges state and local action to recruit train and organize volunteers and stresses that civilian readiness can reduce losses if catastrophe occurs.
L. V. Grooters thanks voters who supported her in the recent school election and expresses hope to serve and justify their faith in her candidacy.
The Iowa Federation of Music Clubs and radio station WHO announce two contests. The Young Composer’s contest seeks Iowa residents ages 16 to 26, while the Iowa Composers Contest targets Iowa composers 26 and older. Entry details are available from Edward K. West at Drake University Des Moines.
Mrs John Ver Meer hosted a Friday evening birthday event with guests from Orange City Sioux Center Maurice and nearby areas. The gathering included Mr and Mrs Will Mulder Mr and Mrs John Mulder and families Mr and Mrs Gerrit Kuiken Mr and Mrs Tunis Manassen Mr and Mrs Harvey Ver Meer Mr and Mrs Gossen Douma and son and Mr and Mrs Casey Smit and children. A social evening followed by a fine birthday luncheon.
Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Rensink and family visited the Paul M. Vande Hoef home Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Uittenbogaard and sons of Sheldon visited Bert Engelsman Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Vande Hoef and family spent Thursday with Richard Vande Hoef at Harris.
Sunday evening visitors included Mrs Henry Reuvers Jr and Mr and Mrs Albert Van Gorp with their children.
Mrs. John Freerks entertained Friday for her birthday with guests including Mr and Mrs Henry Korthals and families from George along with Mr and Mrs Fred Krull and family. A luncheon followed. Sunday visitors included Mr and Mrs Maurice Mouw and sons Daryl and Dennis and Mrs Joe Mouw in the Nick J. Kooiker home. More visits occurred in Sheldon and Orange City households.
Mr and Mrs Dale Fernerda hosted Sunday evening in honor of Tunis Vander Lee and family and Donna, their daughter, for her fourth birthday. Guests included the Van Roekels of Sheldon and their relatives. A social hour preceded a birthday luncheon.
Mr and Mrs Wm Mouw and family visited the Lawrence De Wild home near Hull Sunday evening. Sunday dinner guests at the Henry Ruyter home included Mr and Mrs A S Quinn and their Hull area daughters.
