The United Presbyterian Aid marks its 50th anniversary with 26 current members. The photo shows attendees on Thursday afternoon, listing numerous named members across front and back rows and noting the reporter.
The United Presbyterian Ladies Aid Society of Boyden marked its 50th anniversary on Thursday June 26 1953 at the U P Church hall. About 60 members from Hull Sheldon Boyden and nearby areas attended including Mrs John Droog Mrs Wm De Roos Mrs Dora Rohlfs and others. A program honored Emma Stutzman as the society's only living charter member and noted 45 year member Henry Harman with several over 30 years. A banquet followed in the basement with music prayers and reminiscences. Bud Van Velzen Purchases Le Mars Processing Plant and plans general sausage meat production now serving wider markets. Mr and Mrs Van Velzen reside at 125 First Street NE.
Tony Slothouber opens Boyden’s latest business offering anhydrous ammonia as a nitrogen source. He presented at a town hall meeting with a complete unit, supply tanks, and a Massey tractor from Boyden Repair Shop. The Reporter plans to photograph yield impacts.

The Sheridan Mutual Cooperative Telephone held its annual meeting on Feb 28. All officers were re elected for the coming year with Henry Schleje as president Ray Donkersloot as vice president Gerrit Slothouber as secretary and treasurer August Meyn and Wm L Moret as directors. Henry Schute has served as president for 40 years and Gerrit Slothouber as secretary for 26 years.
The United Presbyterian Church lists Sabbath School at 10:00 A M Morning Worship at 11:00 A M and Evening Worship at 7:30 P M led by Rev Henry Bank.
St John Lutheran invites worship at 8:30 A M 9 30 A M Sunday School 9 40 A M Adult Bible Class 10 45 A M with a special offering for Lutheran World Action Sunday March 1 and Lenten services on Wednesday at 3 00 PM and 8 00 PM Pastor H J Knopich leads English and German services with parish activities listed.
John Dykstra appeared in Mayors court charged with driving through a school stop sign. Mayor Slothouber fined him three dollars plus two dollars costs. He was summoned by Marshall Henry Ruyter.
Three candidates will appear on the school ballot March 9. The names listed are Joe C. Fuhr L. V. Grooters and Arthur Kreulen.
The Boyden Woman's Club will be guests of the George Woman's Club on Friday March 6 at 2 30 P M at the home of Mrs Owen Siebring.
Alfred Fick of Boyden Iowa sold the bull Judy's Patty. A social evening followed with a birthday honor for Mrs George Reimers at her home in honor of her birthday. Guests included multiple Reimers and Betten families from Boyden Marcus and Maurice Iowa areas.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth De Groot welcomed an 8 pound 4 1 4 ounce baby boy named Wesley Jay at Sheldon hospital on Wednesday February 25. The couple also has a son Perry who is seven.
Leo Pohl is in Fairview Hospital Minneapolis room 200 awaiting a leg bone transplant to his back. The patient is listed at South 6th Street address in Minneapolis.
Mrs Sam Kleinwolterink entered Rochester Minnesota hospital for observation and treatment this past week. Mr Arthur E Miller a patient at St Marys hospital is expected home by midweek and reports feeling fine.
Neighbors honored Harold Moret and his daughter at a Wednesday farewell at the Oldenkamp home. The Morets plan to move to California Monday. Attendees included Henry Auberg and family, Eva King, Don Van Diepen, Ed Baartman family, John Hilton, Abe Van Roekel, and Dorothy Oldenkamp of Orange City. A social hour followed by luncheon.
Mrs Lén Vanden Hoeyen was entertained Sunday evening in honor of her husband’s birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs John Bertsma and Mr and Mrs Bas Dekker of Sheldon and Mr and Mrs Wm Kwikkel. A social evening was spent and no luncheon was served.

Mesdames Evertt Ver Meer John Ver Meer and Frank Ver Meer hosted a Shel don bridal shower Friday afternoon for Miss Wilmina Ver Meer daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Ver Meer of Shel don who will wed March 10. Guests included numerous local women from Shel don Hospers Sanborn and New Kirk along with family members. The afternoon featured games and a luncheon with the bride receiving many gifts.
Miss Arlene Kruse and Marilynn Kammlade of Boyden High School were selected to attend a wood wind music clinic in Vermillion South Dakota. They stayed with their teacher Mrs Blemaster of Orange City and traveled with Mr Blominster Orange City H School band director. Both girls are juniors and honor roll students and Marilynn is the first autist in the band. Their grandfathers once studied together in Hanover Germany.
The Sheridan Homemakers will meet Friday March 6 at 1 30 p m at the home of Mrs Bert Koole The topic is First Aid for roll call and members are asked to bring a health suggestion.
The Willing Workers 4-H Club met March 2 at Linda Vander Burgh’s home with co-hostess Linda Evans and Mary Evans. Twenty members attended, new member Marilyn Ruyter was introduced, and demonstrations covered shoe care patterns and drama projects. A lunch was served, and plans for the next meeting on April 13 at Judy and Janet Kimmel were announced.
Alvin Dickman and family plan to move to a new farm near Hull around March 3. Dickman has been a lifelong resident of the Boyden community.
