Diamond Ball Meeting And Red Cross Drive In Sioux County

A March 22 meeting at Town Hall invites diamond ball players and supporters to form a team and elect officers. The Red Cross 1948 fund drive aims for 75 million nationwide with a 5000 Sioux County quota, led by Mrs Emma Stutzman and donations via homes or the bank.

Legion Auxiliary Meeting Planned for March 17

The American Legion and Auxiliary will meet Wednesday March 17 at 8:00 PM in the High School gym. An important business session will be followed by recreation including volleyball and a new Box Hockey game, with a luncheon served afterward. New members are welcome. L. V. Grooters, Commander.

Weed and Pest Control Clinic at Sheldon

A weed and pest control clinic for farmers will be held at the Community building in Sheldon on Wednesday, March 81. It is one of six clinics across Iowa sponsored by the Iowa Farm and Home Register with cooperation from Iowa State College extension. Exhibits will feature the latest spray equipment and chemicals with about 30 manufacturers planning to attend.

Blacksmith And Welders Meeting In Boyden

A monthly meeting of blacksmiths and welders will be held in Boyden on Tuesday evening March 16 at the Vander Maten and Grooters Shop. Between 50 and 75 members and visitors are expected. Lunch will be served after the meeting. The Boyden Reporter thanks subscribers who renew on expiration.

Narrow Escape On Icy Viaduct Embankment

Mr and Mrs John Moret narrowly escaped serious injury when their car skidded on icy pavement and plunged down a high embankment on the viaduct near Sheldon. The vehicle was badly damaged but the couple suffered only minor bruises and cuts.

Boyden Junior High Loses in Tourney to Rock Valley

Boyden Junior High fell 22 to 16 to Rock Valley in the junior high tournament second round at Alton on March 4. Den Herder led with 5 points, Starkweather 4, Magstadt 3, Stykhuis 2, and Reuvers 2 as Boyden drops to 2–2 while showing promise for the future.

Sunday School Convention at Orange City

In Boyden voters on Monday chose Mrs Anie Roggen to the School Board over Gerrit Slothouber by five votes after a close tally 38 to 38 with minor write ins. County Board of Education director race mixed across towns with Arie Grooters leading Schmidt 84 to 3 in Boyden and 177 to 46 in Hull and 96 to 12 in Rock Valley pending official results.

Sheridan Wheeled Flying Rockets 4-H Club Formed

In Sheridan township on Tuesday February 24 eighteen girls formed a new 4-H club named the Sheridan Wheeled Flying Rockets. Leaders named were Mrs Rory Kruse Mrs Richard Kruse and Mrs Henry Hundt. Lorraine Harpham was elected President Luella Winter Vice President Charlotte Jantzen Secretary Ala Mae Hollander Treasurer Norma Hollander Reporter and Lavonne Meyn Historian. Charter members include Shirley Harvham Delaine Woelber Lois Striepe Grace Woelber Pauline Meyer Olleen Van Die nen Arlyne Kruse and Lois Hundt. Meetings set for the second Tuesday monthly with more members expected. Program Committee chaired by Luella Winter to meet next. Interested girls may contact leaders or members.
