Former Boyden lino operator honored with shower

Miss Mirian Vagts was honored with a miscellaneous shower Wednesday evening February 27 in the John Kliene home at Bellflower California with 21 guests to surprise her. The evening included games and luncheon. The bride to be will wed Seaman Clairniel Dunnick on March 29 with family planning to attend.

Eva Durand King born January 29 1882 Anita Iowa moved with family to Ft Pierre South Dakota later to Rapid City then Ramsey Minnesota then Whiting Iowa where husband Myrt Joseph King ran a sawmill. Survived by six children Ora Cecil Judson Ona Francis Leota two siblings 20 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren. Funeral at United Presbyterian Church Boyden 11 am March 5 with Rev Henry Bank, graveside Whit ing 3 with Rev Everett Epperson. Burial Whiting Cemetery.

Girl Scouts Meet at Legion Building

The Girl Scouts met Wednesday afternoon at 4 oclock at the Legion building with 7 members and 2 leaders present. Harriet Bank was hostess and Mrs Leonard Rensink gave a chalk drawing. Airman and Mrs Peter Baartman of Lincoln spent the weekend with relatives. Henry Auberg Sr returned from a checkup in Iowa City. Lillian McConnell Missionary Society met at Mrs Robert Henning's home with services led by Mrs E Kammlade and Mrs H Bank. Birthday celebrations honored Mrs Huisenkveld Sr with friends attending. Fellowship of the U P church plans a pot luck supper on March 18. Several visits and meals were shared among local families including the Salmon, Bosman, Huisenkveld, Grooters, Mouw, Meester, Wallinga, Vagts, Dunnick, and Stiemie households. Bob Hall of Boyden, a freshman at Iowa College, will compete in extemporaneous Speaking at the Intercollegiate Forensics Conference in Iowa City March 1–2.

Town Council Proceedings Close February Session

The town council met in regular session with Mayor Gerrit Slothauber presiding. Receipts and disbursements through February 15, 1957 were reported, and a water analysis was satisfactory. The council discussed street oiling, tree cutting, and equipment purchases, including a used flat bottom trailer. The Boyden Public Library report was accepted with thanks. A resignation from Grooters was accepted. Chris Vander Berg was appointed to fill the vacancy. A visit to Slayton to investigate sewer plans was approved. Bills were authorized for payment.
