The County Legion and Auxiliary set Thursday March 10 for a conference at Boyden High School Auditorium. Senator Charles Hoeven of Alton will speak on Preparedness and lead a business meeting afterward as the principal speaker.
A March 4 union service at United Presbyterian Church features a program by Alice Henderson of New Zealand titled The Church A World Fellowship. The event includes singing, readings, and prayers and will feature talks on four missionary projects supported by the offering. Speakers include Mrs Brink on Migrant Labor Camps, Mrs Dethmers on Religious Work in U S Indian Schools, Mrs Salie on Women’s Union Christian Colleges in the Orient, and Miss Maud Jackson on Christian Literature for Children in Other Lands.
The annual meeting at the Jackson Hotel elected officers for the coming year led by President Mrs. J. S. Pollock and Vice President Mrs. Joe Horn. Other posts included Maud Jackson as Secretary and Librarian Siebe Van Diepen, with plans set for Prayer Day Friday.
Mr and Mrs Keele of Hull Mr and Mrs Al Vroomland of Sioux Center and Mr and Mrs Peter Rons with children were Sunday dinner guests in the Siem Schor tinghuis home.
Johnny DeWitt from Rock Rapids visits the L Burg graaft home for a few days this week.
Mr and Mrs Howard Harmon visited the home of Mr and Mrs Ben Schneider near Sioux Center Wednesday evening for a social call.
A male quartet featuring Henry DeJong, S G Vanden Brink, Henry Van Houte, and Herman Vanden Bosch sang at the Family Night Dinner in Sheldon’s Congregational church on Thursday. Miss Esther Miazgar accompanied the group.
Mrs S Van Diepen and Miss Eleanor Rensink spent Tuesday evening in the Viola Kammalade home in Matlock.
Miss Jeanette Vander Haar of Long Beach California visited last week at the John Vander Haar residence, spending time with the family and touring the area.
Mrs Vernon Ingalls and her daughter Lorne of Sheldon spent Friday in the Ed Diekevers home.
The Boyden School Election shows an uneventful race with incumbents Albert Dethmers Henry VanHoute and S G Vanden Brink running for re election to the school board and treasurer posts as noted before press.
Mrs DeGroot is ill at her daughter Mrs Joe Moun s home and is under the care of Doctor Maris.
A Father and Son Banquet will be held at the United Presbyterian Church on Friday March 11. Attendees should see Gerrit Rensink to make reservations.
The PTA schedule for Wednesday evening March 9 includes a high school band concert and readings by Len Rensink and Cornelia Vander Maaten. Mr Klaren will discuss Adult Education. The hospitality committee comprises Mrs Roggen as chair, Miss Peelen, Mrs Peter DeVries, Mrs Henry Van Houte, and Mrs Jake Van Diepen Jr.
Neighbors held a farewell party at the Moret home last Tuesday evening before they leave the farm. Attendees included Hugo Moret, John Van Roekel, L Burgreaff, Van Surksum, W Boelsman, Edwin Dilly and family, and George Foreman and family, who enjoyed lunch and a friendly sendoff.
Neighbors and friends gathered at the Henry Helwege farm Thursday evening for a farewell surprise party. A three course lunch was served and Mr. and Mrs. Helwege received a gift. The couple moved to Sheldon and the Overgoon family has taken their vacated farm.

Boyden High School students Evelyn Stientjes Irene DeMats and Clara Van Roekel practice teach in first and second grades under Miss Olson. The school held a county tournament skit and notes on declamatory contests, music festival participants, and class activities across home economics English and history. Lawrence Rensink leaves Boyden for George High School.

Harmony reviews composers Schumann Mendelssohn Chopin and Liszt as Romanticism shifts to nationalism. Latin II studies Caesar and Belgians plus Arionistus. Latin I translates Tarpeia and A Roman Camp and explores demonstrative pronouns. Physics finishes Ohm's Laws and begins current electricity topics with an electric bell experiment.
Ruskin Lab reports finishing Treasure Island in Literature and moving to English. Freshman girls complete aprons and begin blouses while boys progress in Manual Training with Arthur finishing a table and Chester and LaVerne completing hall trees. Harold finishes a cupboard and plans a book case. General Science covers vitamin effects and body needs and Algebra progress.

Henry Moret, class of 29, pursues a medical course in Iowa City. Hilda Kooiman, class of 29, moves to the Philippine Islands with husband. George Van Diepen studies Business Administration in Grand Island Nebraska. Marjorie Belling teaches in Grant township Consolidated School No 4. Herman Van Den Bosch works at Van Den Bosch furniture store in Boyden.
D H Wissink of Hull announces candidacy for County Treasurer in the Sioux County primary. He led the Farm Loan Association and pledges a strong bid to unseat incumbent A Balkema of Orange City.
Mrs. S Schortinghuis entertained at dinner on Monday evening with guests Mr and Mrs Gerrit Brinkman and children of Matlock and Mr and Mrs Peter De Vries and children.
The Ladies Aid of United Presbyterian Church will meet Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Lack as hostess.
The Home Economics Department will host a dinner for school board members, faculty, and their families Friday evening.

Ruthye Jackson was re elected Chairman at the Monday meeting held at the Hotel. Members from Hull and Ironton attended. The annual report followed the election and a general report will be published later. Mrs Ben Neimeyer of Hull was elected Vice Chairman. The Chairman appoints the Secretary and Treasurer.
The Women's Citizenship Club of Boyden will meet Friday evening at the Jackson Hotel. Mrs. Neil Lalie will present the topic and Mrs. Schreuder will be joint hostess. Roll call is Rivers and Lakes.
John Dethmers George Vande Gaarde and Peter Moret attended a Paullina meeting last Monday to map plans for the Annual Live Stock Show of the Iowa Holstein Breeders Association.
Walter Diekevers and Peter DeBoer drove to Des Moines on Tuesday to attend the Oil Dealers Convention, seeking industry updates and networking opportunities.
Slides and a talk under the Sioux County Farm Bureau were held at the Lumberyard Tuesday evening. John Wingert, lower Growing Extension Specialist from Iowa State College, led the program with Miss Me Cumber assisting.

John Van Diepen reports the death of his mother Mrs. C. Van Diepen in Momence Illinois at age 87. She broke her hip in three places earlier and had been bedfast since the accident. Funeral services are planned for later this week.

Mrs E Kammalade of Matlock marked her 78th birthday Wednesday at the home of her daughter Mrs Siebe Van Diepen.
