St John Lutheran Church north of town will host its annual Mission Festival on Sunday June 8 featuring four services German at 9 30 and English at 10 45 with speakers H W Siefkes of Waterloo Iowa District president of the American Lutheran Church and Paul Moeller of the Lutheran Children's Home Waverly. An evening program includes Moeller showing motion pictures and Rev Routte of Montgomery Ala. Also the Sioux City Lutheran Welfare Society advisory board meets June 1 from 2 30 to 4 30 P M at St John LeMars with Rev L L Belk as pastor.
Mr and Mrs Dick De Groot were honored at a surprise party last Monday with self invited guests bringing lunch. Attendees included Mr and Mrs John Freerks Datus Salie and family Gerrit Uittenbogard and family Art Uittenbogard and family Andrew Belling Paul Vande Hoeft and A J Bos. The De Groots plan to settle in Boyden. Sunday visitors at Art Uittenbogaards home included Roy Baartman and Marion Moret from Sheldon. Pete Struyk Cedar Falls spent the weekend with John Struyk and Ike Struyk. John Grooters and family visited John Ver Steeg at Sheldon Friday evening.
Walter Dickevers reports the Farmers Co op new service station on Boyden's main street will have its official opening a week from Saturday. The ultra modern station offers top lubrication and washing equipment along with battery charging. Read next week's Reporter for complete details.
Granville defeats Boyden 6 to 2 in opening junior legion game. Scholten fans 9 with 7 walks for Boyden while Kokenge fans 14 for Granville. Boyden had 38 hits off Kokenge. Granville 5 off Scholten. Both teams commit two errors. Boyden to face Ireton Friday at 6 15 pm in Boyden.
Dairy Month being observed throughout Iowa with a series of advertisements by local businessmen. The Boyden Reporter cooperates to promote National Daily Month. Friday evening visitors at the Dick De Groot home included families from Ocheyedan Minneapolis and Hull. Memorial Day farewell at Round Lake Minnesota brought together numerous local residents for a picnic dinner boating and fishing.
Mr and Mrs Datus Salie and daughter visited Friday evening in the Simon Aardena home at Doon. The Brouwer family will move soon to their new home at Mapleton where Mr Brouwer has accepted the Superintendency of Schools. Rev and Mrs Chester Postma and son were Friday supper guests in the Rev Bovendam home at Matlock.
Mr and Mrs Steve Vanden Brink returned home Tuesday after a long stay in California They were joined by Mr and Mrs Logan Vanden Brink of California who will visit here for a while Logan plans to attend college soon.
