Polls Open June 6 for Lincoln and Sheridan Townships

Voters in Lincoln Township Hull area and Sheridan Township Boyden will cast ballots Monday June 6 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Township Room Hull Fire House and the Legion Hall Boyden. Races include nominations for State offices and U S Congress with Republican and Democrat tickets. Fifth District Supervisor race features Gerrit J. Brands Bert Keele and Wm Kuipers as Republicans and Herman Kaster as Democrat.

Memorial Day Observed by Many at Hull Cemeteries

Memorial Day services were conducted by the American Legion and Auxiliary at several Hull area cemeteries. Many former Hull residents returned for the observance and renewed old acquaintances. At Hope Cemetery the Rev. Donald Bos of Canton South Dakota delivered a message urging Christians to work for world peace.

Poulsoms Move to Hull Iowa New Band Director

Mr and Mrs Thomas E Poulsom now reside in Hull Iowa occupying the Les Foreman house formerly home to the Arnold Vander Sodel family. Poulsom is named band director at Boyden Hull High School and will direct summer band concerts. The couple wed in Springfield Missouri on Friday May 27 and moved to Hull soon after.

First Open Air Band Concert Opens Season in Hull

Western Christian High held its Commencement May 25 with about 1500 in attendance. Rev G Van Oyen gave the address on Climb though the Rock be Rugged. Ninety seven graduates received diplomas as Ed Mellema gave the class farewell. Band concerts start June 4 at the band stand near the main intersection under new director Thomas E Poulsom. Residents invited to attend and shop in Hull Saturday evenings.

School Picnic at Boyden Huge Success

The Boyden Hull Attendance Center Community School picnic drew both rural and town attendees. Pupils played games while parents prepared the noon dinner and socialized, and the day closed with report cards and a 2:00 p.m. dismissal. The faculty later returned for a coffee party and honored Mrs Hesebeek at a pink and blue shower.

Crowd Watches Hull Memorial Day Horse Races

A 1000 to 1200 strong crowd attended the Hull Memorial Day horse races at the Ball Park. John Hymans led as announcer with John Gorzeman as time keeper. judges were Dowie Smit and Willis Meylink. Ribbons and trophies were awarded by Fred Van Engen and H. W. Huibregtse. multiple race results list winners such as Harry Tensen and Gerrit Rens across various saddle and harness events.

Commencement Honors Show in Boyden Hull High School

The Boyden Hull Community High School honored graduates and award winners during commencement on May 27 at the Community Memorial Building Hull. Valedictorian Arlo Van Veldhuizen and salutatorian Evelyn Te Slaa led a class of 39 graduates with high GPAs. National Union Award recipients Beverly Plasier and Becky Vander Schaaf earned music and band honors, with Arion Award winners to be registered nationally.

The Hull Christian School ended its year on Friday May 27 with an all school picnic at Hull Park. Eighteen graduates were honored on May 24 during an early commencement week.

Miss Judie Dethmers daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Dethmers and a student at Iowa State College Iowa City telephoned Friday evening to say she had received a letter of admission to the school of Dental Hygiene She was one of 20 in her class to receive such a letter in the College of Dental Hygiene.
