Legion Home in Boyden Under Construction

Work began last week on a new American Legion post home in Boyden. Local donations funded the project with Henry Bosman donating the building site east of the old Christian School Building. The photo shows an Allis Chalmers bulldozer used to dig and dump dirt, with Henry Ruyter operating the machine for Rensink Gravel Co.

Iowa Delegates Named to Founding New Party Convention

Fifty seven Iowans from 17 towns were named delegates to the New Party founding convention in Philadelphia July 23 25 announced by C E Biederman Mitchell chairman of the Iowa delegation and progressive party gubernatorial candidate. The group will join Wallace supporters to push a platform on peace civil rights and abundance. Sioux City delegates listed include Alice Nathlich Bruce Nolan Mildred Norling Co D Norling Mabel Bennett and E E Roelofs. In other notes Boyden lost a softball game to Hospers 6 3 after leading 2 0 early with pitching woes and a later slugging spree. Boyden plans a August tournament and a feature attraction to draw regional crowds. Also included is a passage noting Australia s population shift toward cities from 43 percent in 1921 to 50.7 in the latest census with five of ten in capital cities.
