A large congregation attended the groundbreaking for the new St Paul Lutheran Church northeast of Hull. The Rev Paul Kenyon led prayers as Leo Schoenrocks Construction Co began work this week.
Results from Wednesday show Carmel beating Lutherans 7 to 4 in a league game and First Reformed girls overpowering Christian Reformed 16 to 2. On Thursday Maurice hosts First Reformed after a 17 to 4 victory, with future rematch set for July 25.
Publicist Bill Hawkins confirms the all new Holiday On Ice production opens August 17 to 21 at the Sioux City Auditorium. The 16th edition promises spectacular production numbers, a Sunburst opening saluting Aurora, ethnic dances, American Indian and kiddies segments, ballet excerpts, and a finale praising the Armed Forces. Tickets are on sale by mail or call.
The Welcome Workers 4-H group toured Center Schoolhouse and visited members Roberts Broek Van Roekel and Lyons. Glenn Lyons spoke on grooming pigs and cattle before an evening softball practice and a picnic supper with parents.
John J. Bomgaars 52 of Sioux Center died Sunday at home after a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Central Reformed Church Sioux Center with burial in Hope Cemetery Hull. Arrangements were by Vander Ploeg Funeral Home Sioux Center. He was born March 18 1908 in Orange City Iowa and married Edith Wallinga June 3 1935. He was a city employee at Sioux Center. Survivors include his widow and a daughter Mrs Howard Langstraat of Sheldon Iowa.

A large crowd gathered Saturday afternoon for the dedication of Boyden’s new Post Office Building on Main Street. The event featured a luncheon at the United Presbyterian Church, remarks by Congressman Charles Hoeven and Dr. F. R. Kushner, and a flag ceremony with Boy Scouts.
The Sioux County Farm Bureau announced Farm Bureau night at the Sioux County Youth Fair will be Wednesday August 10. The Royal United Shows will present acts from acrobatics to comedy. Members and their families attend free. non members pay 75 cents. under 16 admitted free with parents. A horseshoe tournament runs Wednesday and Thursday with trophies and medals for winners.
Twenty seven students from five divisions earned straight A averages for the second semester of 1959 60. Among top ranks is Sharon K Moss from the School of Education Hull Iowa. previously named were twenty Arts and Sciences students.
The Hull band will not perform Wednesday concerts in the park this summer due to scheduling conflicts. Remaining shows move to Saturdays from the band stand near the main intersection, inviting residents to enjoy music, shop locally, and socialize. The notice lists community fund totals from various towns and a home service report for veterans aid totaling 263.62 dollars.
Sioux County youths may nominate a resident girl who is a freshman or under 21 as of January 1 1960 for the County Youth Fair Queen. Nominations must include name age address and photo sent to Van's Jewelry Sioux Center Iowa by August 6. Voters will choose at a booth in the exhibit building and the winner will be crowned Thursday evening with a diamond dinner ring awarded.
The American Legion Auxiliary Wegman Keele Unit 380 met in Hull at the Community Memorial Building. President Pat Lutyens opened the meeting and the group voted to shift future meetings to the third Monday while August meeting will be Thursday August 11. Frances Kuipers handled door prize and Frances Kuipers called for material donations for bibs and pot-holders. Dora Schol installed new officers and awarded Pat Lutyens a Past President pin. Hostesses were Ruth Wolfswinkel Esther Vande Stouwe and Anne Bonestroo.
The Western Christian High School Society will hold its annual meeting on Monday evening July 25 at 8 00 in the school auditorium. About twenty to twenty five Christian Reformed Churches compose the society. The main business is electing Board Members for the coming year. All members are urged to attend.
Saturday evening drawing produced two winners Miss Lois Doorenbos and Mrs B Oldenkamp near Hospers who did not claim their 32500 prize. Remaining drawings set for Saturday July 23 at 8 30 p m.
John R. Goldman of the Sioux City office says disability payments for ages 50 to 64 match those of retired workers 65 and over. Benefits range from 33 to 120 dollars monthly based on average earnings, with example figures. A meeting with a district representative will be at the Orange City Court House on Thursday July 21, 1960 from 10 am.
Mrs John E Meyer 59 of Boyden Town died Monday July 18 after a heart condition. Funeral services set for Friday July 22 at 1 30 p m from the home northwest of Boyden and at 2 p m from St John Lutheran church north of Boyden. Survived by widower three sons and five daughters. Kraai and Van Etten Funeral Service in charge.
