Boys Sectional Tournament Play Opens Monday

The first round of the State Boys A Sectional Tournament is set for Monday evening with games at Sioux Center. Lower bracket matchups include Floyd Valley versus West Sioux at 6 30 p m Boyden Hall against Western Christian Hull at 7 45 p m and Maurice Orange City against Rock Valley at 9 00 p m.

Western Christian High Basketball Results Past Week

Western Christian High teams earned multiple wins over Rock Valley with the A team 63 50 and B team 40 20. Girls fell to Archer 45 44 in overtime. A and B boys beat and lost to Augustus Academy 74 65 and 35 28. Next up they face Boyden Hull in Sioux Center at 7 45 p.m.

Northwestern to meet tourney winner on KLEM broadcast

Northwestern College Orange City Iowa will face the winner of the Clinton Keokuk game in the Iowa State Junior College Basketball Tournament on Thursday February 18 at 2 00 pm broadcast from Webster City over station KLEM. Northwestern earned a bye as conference champions and holds an 11 1 conference 15 1 season record. Auxiliary Unit 380 met Thursday evening in the Legion Room of the Community Memorial Building. Entries Being Received For Science Fair At Westmar

Entries are coming in for the science fair at Westmar College with a March 19 deadline for postmarks February 19 1960. Seventh through twelfth graders compete for scholarships and awards including the William C Nell Science scholarship to the top senior and top three in both divisions. One exhibit per student made by the entrant only. The day includes setup 930 am to noon lunch noon to 1 pm displays noon to 5 pm banquet at 530 pm in Weidler Hall with Dr Jack Chesnutt as speaker. Exhibitors pay 2 00 registration fee tickets for others 150.

Boyden Couple Observes 25th Anniversary in Sheldon

Mr and Mrs Henry L Moret of Boyden celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Monday February 15 at the Sheldon Community Building They were married February 15 1935 in Boyden by the late Rev J W Brink The couple and their family live near Boyden where Mr Moret works at the Co Op Elevator and Mrs Moret teaches in the public school They have one daughter Marilyn and two grandsons The event featured a silver red and white bridal table and a luncheon served cafeteria style with several relatives and friends in attendance

Central College Symphonic Band Includes Two Hullites

The Central College 68 piece Symphonic Band opened the year with a Feb 6 concert featuring Hull Iowa natives Nyla Rozeboom on flute and Janice Van Veldhuizen. The program spanned classical and pops selections and a second concert is set for Apr 23.

Premiums and Evening Programs at Sioux County Youth Fair

The Sioux County Youth Fair Board, meeting in February, outlined plans for the August 8–11 fair in Sioux Center. The Royal United Show will headline the midway and evening programs on August 9 and 10, sponsored by the Youth Fair and County Farm Bureau, with Thursday evening activities aided by the Sioux Center Civic Club. Up to 3500 in premiums was approved, including 1300 for the Girls division and additional payments for wood working plant collections insect collections forestry and electrical projects.

Boyden Creamery Board Considers Sale Merger or Consolidation

Three officers of the Boyden Creamery board were empowered at a February 11 meeting to pursue sale merger or consolidation of the cooperative. Joe A. Horn Walter W. Hensch and Case Van Draager will lead the action after dairy expert Dr. Nielsen urged a sale or merger amid declining business. About 100 people attended. proxies from two to three hundred shareholders were cast. The committee plans talks with neighboring creameries about disposition of the plant.

Dordt College A Cappella Choir Hosts Fine Arts Night

Dordt College presents a fine arts program on Friday February 26 at 8 00 p m in the college auditorium. The program features Dordt A Cappella choir brass ensemble vocal and instrumental solos trios and quartets and a madrigal group performing in the round candlelit table style.
