War Savings Campaign Starts To Educate Nation
Uncle Sam launched a broad drive on December 1 to teach Americans the value of a quarter through the National War Savings Campaign. The plan targets 2 billion dollars raised by December 1, 1919 with Iowa contributing about 48 million. Methods include buying twenty five cent thrift stamps that exchange for a five dollar War Savings Stamp, or purchasing twenty five cent stamps to complete a five dollar stamp, or buying five dollar stamps outright. The program, led by a Treasury subcommittee, aims to teach thrift and provide war funding, offering sales at post offices banks and various agents with cards to track stamps toward a War Savings Certificate.

Business houses to close on Christmas and New Year’s Day

The Iowa Light Heat and Power Co of Sheldon will furnish Boyden with electric current under a concluded contract after weeks of efforts by Veenschoten Bros. Construction starts at once on a two mile line from Sheldon west to provide Boyden with eventual twenty four hour service.
