Tunis Salie Passes From Influenza At 28 In Iowa Town

Tunis Salie eldest son of Mrs. Cornelius Salie of this town died Wednesday morning November 27 1918 from influenza at his mother's home. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 on the porch with Rev Karl Megdelsen officiating. He was born February 21 1890 on the Beyer farm three miles south of Boyden and grew to manhood there. He leaves his mother three sisters Mrs L Kleyne Mrs N Kooiker Elizabeth Salie and two brothers Cornelius and Datus and many relatives. His father died about two years ago.

Local Visits Reported Across Glenham and Matlock

Dr. Brink and Mrs. Brink traveled to Glenham South Carolina with Willie Norton. Mrs. Fred Peters of Matlock is visiting the parental home in the area. Mr and Mrs Clarence Rehberg were callers in Sheldon last Wednesday.

Sitter Babe Passes Away

Eleven months old Reta Vernice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Sitter of Windom Minnesota, died last Saturday after a severe influenza attack followed by pneumonia. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Kuyper home with Rev Karl Megdelsen of the U P church officiating in Windom Cemetery.

Dozens of residents report illness from the Spanish influenza outbreak. Named cases include Geo Dean Henry Wargowsky Elmer Miller E G Mahoney Joe Steven John Rolfe Herman Luymes A Verrips R Kamminga Fred Heitritter B H Kruse J H Kruse Jake Westra and Emma Reyelts daughter of Mr and Mrs Claus Reyelts who has pneumonia. Hope is for quick recovery and containment of the disease.

Wedding for YWCA house girls honors DeVelder and Versteeg

A mock wedding was held Tuesday evening for the YWCA house girls. Honored guests were Miss Tena DeVelder and Miss Jennie Versteeg, two recent flu hospital returnees. About thirty people attended the affair.

William Monster Killed In Action

Len Moret received a Washington telegram reporting Private William Monster infantry KIA on November 8. The deceased, from this vicinity, lived with the Moret family for five years, with roots in the Netherland. His last letter from October 4 describes life at Camp Travis and hopes for peace in France.
