Boyden Man Lester Doorenbos Killed by Electric Shock

Lester Doorenbos, 26, died from an electric shock Saturday morning at a Boyden elevator while helping clear a steel grain bin. He had been in water about an inch deep when contact with a motor caused a 440 volt jolt. Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church as relatives gathered for the burial.

Funeral services were held Wednesday August 8 1956 for Lester Elwin Doorenbos 26 of Boyden born August 25 1929 on a farm near Boyden died after an electrical accident in Boyden. He is survived by his parents two sisters four brothers wife Rosella Rock and two young children Steven Dean and Sandra Sue. Interment was in Boyden Cemetery and relatives attended a family outing in Lemars.

About 90 Farm Bureau members from Nassau Sherman and Reading townships gathered at Maurice City Park on Friday July 27 1956 for a potluck supper and evening program. John B. Oranger of Sherman Township was reelected ASC committee chair at the Sioux County convention in Orange City on July 28. Albert De Vries of Welcome Township was reelected vice chair, Herman Vander Maten of Capel named third member, with Jake Abma of Rock and John Jacobs of Holland as first and second alternates for a one year term starting August 1. Sioux Electric Cooperative Association of Orange City Iowa announces a new Rural Electrification Administration loan of 192000 to build about 20 miles of lines serving 30 new consumers. The loan plus prior advances bring total loans to 1546000 with 35 year repayment and 190000 already paid.

Marriage licenses issued for Elmer Warnujes and Esther Roghair in Sioux Center and others in Rock Valley Ireton Sheldon and Hall. A man pleaded guilty to larceny and was sentenced to five years at Fort Madison. Estates in Union and Orange City Iowa were settled with executors and administratrices appointed. some estates liquidated or closed.
