Disability Freeze Extended One Year Under Social Security

President Eisenhower signed Public Law 109 on July 17 1957 extending the disability freeze for another year. The measure protects years of disability from counting against Social Security benefits and allows veterans to receive VA disability compensation without reducing Social Security disability insurance. Eligible workers must have five years under Social Security and about ten years in the three years before disability onset. The amendment grants those disabled before January 1 1955 until June 30 1958 to apply.
