Neil Ver Huel longtime superintendent of the Newkirk school district died Tuesday evening in an auto accident near Nevada Iowa. He was alone returning home when the crash occurred no other vehicles involved. The car reportedly crossed the highway and turned over ending on its back.

Miss Marilynn Kammlade earned an I rating for her flute solo at the State Music Contest in Perry Iowa held April 24 25. The Boyden High School ensemble also received an I rating with members Kammlade Landhuis Vande Gaarde Groot ers. Darlene De Boer and Marjorie Vermeer sang high treble solos with ratings of I and II. A Holstein-Friesian cow named Burg Ormsby Prince Ada, owned by Richard Burgraff of Boyden Iowa, finished a 347 day Herd Improvement Registry test with 642 pounds of butterfat and 15,517 pounds of milk at about 21 quarts daily. The cow was 3 years 11 months old at testing and milked twice daily. Iowa State College supervised the test with the Holstein-Friesian Association of America.
