Mrs. Elizabeth Van Diepen of Boyden received a telegram from the war department Friday that her son Sietsa Sparky Van Diepen was seriously wounded in active combat in the North Africa area. He belongs to Sheldon’s Company I, previously left with his unit. His brother James, also a Company I member, was injured in an accident at Camp Claiborne and later joined England troops. Another brother Thomas serves with a Texas ground crew. Two brothers have medical deferments, a younger brother remains at home, and the family includes three sisters and a deceased father. Mr and Mrs Bernard Peters visited Dick Roos in Orange City Sunday evening. the Roos hosted Peters for Friday supper.
