Plans Set For Sioux County Polio Vaccination Clinic

The Sioux County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and the Sioux County Medical Association plan a polio vaccination clinic. Targeted are pre-school children and youths up to age 20. First clinic would run the last week of April, a second three weeks later. Cost is $2 per shot paid at vaccination. a parent signed request is required unless a parent is present.

Brownie Scouts Meet With Easter Craft Fun

The Brownies met Tuesday April 16 with nine members and leader Mrs H Verrips. Barbara Bernisse served lunch and Noreen Bell led games. They dyed eggs drew pictures and wrote their names on them. No visitors attended. Scribe Mary Jean Slothouber.

Army PFC Marvin D. Junior Senior Banquet Set For Friday April 26

Invitations issued for the Junior Senior banquet to be held in the high school auditorium on Friday April 26. Neptune's Court is the theme with Lyle Dykstra as master of ceremonies. After the banquet a theatre party in Sioux City follows.

Legion Auxiliary unit meeting actions and officers named

The Wm. Monster Auxiliary Unit No. 272 met April 15 at the Legion Building with Mrs. Rosa Mackie presiding. Members sang and shared recipes during social hour. The group voted $135 to aid the Legion Post debt, $25 for the Supply Shelf for Des Moines veterans’ children, and Easter gifts to Ronnie and Joel Kuyper, with lunch by Mrs. Johanna Salmon and Mrs. Muriel Kooiker.

Extension Service Office Hour Changes Are Noted

Sioux County Extension Service announces new hours Monday to Friday eight to twelve and one to five. The office will be closed on Saturdays. The Extension Home Economist and Extension Director will, when possible, be in on Monday to assist callers.

Bowlers Award Meeting at Legion Building

A meeting of all men’s bowling teams was held at the Legion Building on Wednesday evening, April 17. Special awards for the past season were presented and will be published next week. Reservations for singles or doubles for the Legion Bowl tournament are available, with rounds continuing every weekend until May 11 and prizes awarded to winners.

Sheldon Man Crowned DeKalb Corn Champion in Northwest Iowa

H. M. Boersma of Sheldon was proclaimed county corn growing champion at a Sioux City banquet honoring Northwest Iowa champions. He posted a top yield of 132.16 bushels per acre in Sioux County’s 1956 National Selected Five Acre DeKalb contest. Dennis Schemmel of Granville and Robert E. Kuecker of Maurice placed second and third with yields of 116.65 and 103.83 bushels per acre. F. N. Muilenberg of Orange City was fourth with 100.34 bushels per acre.

Fire at Hull Boyden area farm destroys barn and kills livestock

Fire departments from Hull and Boyden answered a blaze at the Richard Burggraaff farm southwest of Boyden Sunday around 4 p.m. The 20 by 32 foot structure burned to total loss. Four sons and thirty pigs perished. no insurance on stock, building partially insured. Spectators crowded the scene, with as many as 300 cars reported.

Arie Bomgaars and wife of Boyden Iowa receive invitation from Walter Dietz Electrolux president to attend the Parade of Success and Sales Meetings at the Waldorf Astoria New York from April 28 to 29. They will join as guests of the company and attend the appreciation dinner. They also earned a second trip to Cheyenne Wyoming in June or July for outstanding sales achievement.

Rev William Meinen pastor of St Paul and Zion Lutheran Churches Hull Iowa has accepted a call from Calvin Lutheran Church Sabula Iowa across the Mississippi from Savannah Illinois The Meinen family will stay in Hull until late May so Priscilla may finish the school term Their new assignment began in Hull late March 1946.

Social Security Office moves to Sioux City Post Office building

Effective Friday April 12 the Social Security Administration district office in Sioux City has moved to Room 5 at the post office building. The mailing address remains P O Box 1917. Additional temporary staff from other offices will help handle current claims and ensure timely benefits. The Sioux City district will operate enhanced contact stations with an April schedule in addition to regular visits.

School Reorganization Meet Set in Hull April 29

Lions Club of Hull plans a public meeting at Hull Public School to hear County Superintendent W K Price explain the school reorganization program. The event targets Hull and Boyden residents, including local farmers, with questions invited from the floor. Further details will appear next week.

Pre School Enrollment Set For April 24 At High School

A preschool enrollment program for the 1957-58 kindergarten class will be held Wednesday at the high school auditorium. All mothers and enrolling children aged five by November 15, 1957 are urged to attend for parent and child information. Birth certificates are requested. School Notes Special Assembly on Liquor Dangers

Mr. Lyons of the Iowa Temperance League spoke to high school and Junior High students about how liquor slows the brain and can destroy parts of it. He demonstrated braking with Worlan Van Roekel and Coralynn Vis using a wheel and signals. He noted Iowa has fewer mental hospital cases from alcohol than many states and that narcotics are less of a problem here than in large east and west coast cities.
