Rev. Henry Bank leads services at the United Presbyterian Church with Sunday School at 9 45 A.M. Morning Worship at 11 A.M. and Evening Worship at 7 30 P.M.
St John Lutheran presents a German service at 8:30 A M followed by Sunday School at 9 30 A M Adult Bible Class at 9 40 A M and an English service at 10 45 A M Pastor H J Knoploh leads the congregation.
Sioux County Civil Defense names Earl Klay of Orange City as chairman. Ground Observation Post supervisors include Donald Dowdey in Hawarden, Thomas Noteboom in Orange City, Frank Druyvéstuyn in Rock Valley, and Ross Vernon in Sioux Center.
Ten Sioux County farmers earned honor roll certificates from the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association and USDA for average butterfat tests of 400 pounds or more in the Sioux No. 1 Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Recipients include Pete Moret and Leonard Rensink Jr. of Boyden, Joe C. Fuhr, Hull, John W. Boote and sons of Hull, George Vande Gaarde and Walter Hensch of Hull, Peter De Jong and Richard Oostenink of Hospers and Chester A. De Boer of Hull, with Burggraaff and Fishr noted for outstanding herd performance.
Eleven of fourteen towns and fourteen of twenty three townships exceeded their polio fund quotas. Total raised 25 674 90 with 13 024 44 from towns and 12 650 46 from townships. Extra results include Vern Vermeer’s discharge from Warm Springs after treatment and a Sheldon Production Credit Association annual meeting with re elected director W P Moeller and remarks on farmer ownership and efficiency.
Mary De Jong celebrated her fourth birthday with her mother Mrs Bernard De Jong hosting Saturday afternoon. Guests included Vera Horn Harriet Baak Dean Haze David Baak Elaine Rensink Ronnie Rensink Paul Vanden Brink Phyllis Van Gorp Harlan Smid Kathleen Zuiderhof Maria Mae Van Roekel Mrs John De Jong Eunice Mrs Arie Roggen and other young friends. Games and an Easter decoration were part of the festivities. Mary received many fine gifts which were opened and a two course birthday luncheon followed.
Linda Is 4 Mrs. Robert Dethmers entertained Monday afternoon in honor of her daughter Linda's fourth birthday. Guests included Galen Veen Ronnie Rensink Paty Jo Salmon Larry Lee Salmon Seanna Bell Noreen Bell Galen Van Velzen Dean Haze Annetta Vander Brake Vicky Vander Brake Betty Rensink Glenda Koerselman Judy Dethmers Mrs. John Veen Shel don Mrs. Bill Vander Brake Orange City Mrs. Ray Brockhouse Mrs. Joe Van Velzen Mrs. Henry Van Velzen and Mrs. Norman Bell. The afternoon featured games Easter decorations and a two course luncheon.
Mrs. Gerrit Alons was admitted to the Lutheran hospital Thursday and underwent surgery Friday. She is reported getting along fine. Mrs. Donald Dunnick returned home Friday from Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars. Mrs. Wm. De Roos of Hull assists in the Dunnick home.
Sioux County 4-H Boys are invited to a trapping demonstration on April 11 at the George Eason farm near the county line on Highway 33. Sponsored by Plymouth County 4-H Clubs with State Conservation Commissioner Gene Newall, the event runs 9 AM to noon and covers making good trap sets for predator control. Tom Berkly and JB Severson lead the project, with participation encouraged for potential extra earnings.
The American Legion and Auxiliary hold a county meeting at Sioux Center High School on April 9 with speaker L. Faber editor of the Iowa Legion aire.
Northwestern College in Orange City joins the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities. The decision followed a self survey, on site visits by presidents, and a nine member board review. President Wezeman called accreditation an honor and thanked church congregations for support.
The Sr. class presents a three act comedy Accidental Hero by Phyllis Woodruff Snapp on Thursday and Friday April 23 and 24. The cast includes Jerry Starkweather Junior Reu vers Lee Moret Edwin Dickevers Georgiana Brinks Frances Van Meeteren Marlys Van Meeteren La Vonne Moret Shirley Kuyper Marilyn Moret Harlin Doorenbos Robert Rosenboom Dorothy Doctor Harold De Boer Phyllis Stuenberg David Lagoo Jason Vander Hieden Shirley Thorman Arlis Klein Joan Vander Hoeven Marion Bomgaars Clairniel Dunnick.
Mr and Mrs Herman Vander Well of Le Mars visited the John Hilton home on Sunday afternoon. Guests included Mr and Mrs Frank De Haas of Orange City. Elen Winter spent the Easter vacation with her parents Albert and Winter and returned to Minneapolis to attend Lutheran Bible Institute.
Cal Stickel cites 1952 highway fatality data showing speed and wrong way driving as leading causes and notes teen drivers and 25 to 64 year olds account for most deaths. He also discusses Iowa school finance and the Minimum Foundation Program, criticizing current funding, bus competition, and calls for serious reform efforts.
Mr and Mrs Ray Brockhouse hosted a Steelco dinner at their home Wednesday evening. Helpers included Mr Howard Struik and Mr Wayan Buckley from Sioux Falls. Guests listed: Mr and Mrs John Riemers, Mr and Mrs John Moret, Mr and Mrs Henry Bosman, Miss Ida Stegemann, Mr and Mrs George Brinks, Miss Christina Stegemann, Mrs Gertrude Tiedeman, and Mr Walter Ver Hoet of Sanborn.
Notice states Matlock Co-op Gas and Oil Assn is discontinue d affiliation and Matlock Station will operate as City Service Gas Oil and Accessories under Henry Stegemann, inviting continued business as before.
Bridge Club met Wednesday evening at the Mrs John Fischer home. Guests included Mrs Bernard De Jong and Mrs K N Nelson. A dessert luncheon followed with bridge games and prizes awarded to Mrs Arthur Kruelen, Mrs Bernard De Jong and Mrs Norman Bell.
The Woman’s Club gathers Friday at 8:00 P M at the homes of Mrs Howard Verrips and Mrs Ed Blumeyer with Mrs Len Rensink leading devotions. Guest speaker will be Mrs Marie Sonnes of Spencer.
George Man paid a $50 fine plus costs in Mayor McNutt's court for drinking beer on the streets and throwing beer cans onto the roadway in Sheldon. The Everett-Ros item from Sheldon Mail notes the incident occurred last week.
Mrs. Donald Dunnick expresses sincere gratitude to all who visited in hospital, sent cards, gifts, flowers, and blood donors. Special thanks to Rev. Bank for visits and prayers.

Brown Swiss breeder Alfred Bick of Boyden Iowa reports the sale of Angeline's Duke 1147 88 to Rudolf Fick also of Boyden Iowa. Fick subsequently sold Hulda's Horner 114787 to Walter Heideman of Humboldt South Dakota.
